Axel's place, near Exeter

Went down to KC's chum Axel's place ostensibly to see the sculpture exhibition he put on but more, for me, to drink and eat and relax…We picked up some dry aged Beef ribs and slow cooked them with roast spuds and veg. I took down the red Morgeot, Belle Crozes Hermitage and Lanessan (for KC)
Winners and losers here. Notes were a little bit random which explains some of the paucity.
2007 Domaine Fontaine-Gagnard Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Rouge
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
cherry and berry, sweet spice, touch of earthiness and, perhaps, farmyard. Fleshy juicy and pleasing - more sour and savoury on the palate with spicy notes but this is very pleasant.

2011 Bernard Dugat-Py Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Lavaux St. Jacques
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Decanted and consumed. Stalks, black fruits, berries, struck match, slight spice. Tight, young, grippy tannins, black fruits travel long with the stalky notes. Time required for me.

2005 Domaine Belle Crozes-Hermitage Cuvée Louis Belle
France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Crozes-Hermitage
Blackberry, black pepper, slight cream and vanilla. The fruit is a little sour and there are thick, dense tannins in the mouth. There is a little black pepper and some alcohol warmth on the finish. Okay

2015 Château Lanessan
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
Decanted for two hours. Red berry and blackcurrant, vanilla, spice….similar on the palate with tight tannins and a fresh finish. Impressively approachable.

2013 Gérard Raphet Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Les Millandes
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru
Sour red jubey fruits - unripe red currants - and stalky notes. Sour on the palate with similar fruit and green tannins. Nah
