Introduction

Spanish wine tasting.

Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 1996 Bodegas Muga Rioja Prado Enea Gran Reserva 88 Points

Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja

Red color with a orange hue. Some red cherries, orange peel, earth and leather shoes on the nose. In the mouth it is a classical Rioja style wine, with lots of warm fruit and tobaco, hints of tomato. Medium long taste with some acidity to balance it.

  • 2001 Bodegas Estefanía Bierzo Tilenus Pagos de Posada 89 Points

    Spain, Castilla y León, Bierzo

Dark red center and red hue, seems to just have passed its youthful look. Aromas of cigarbox, very nice, and some earthy cherries. In the mouth there is a warm feel, but the fruit is elegant. Gaining some chocolate and herbs over the midpalate and end, with powerful tannins. Good lenght and balance.

  • 2000 Bodegas Valduero Ribera del Duero Reserva 92 Points

Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero

Black, red color with a purple hue towards the rim. The nose has blue berries, black berries, pepper and hints of herbs. Starts fruit and elegant on the palate, but gains strenght over the midpalate. The aftertaste comes as a big punch, with intense tannins and the taste stays for a long time. Really good and well made wine.

  • 2004 Hacienda Monasterio Ribera del Duero 93 Points

Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero

Black, red color with a very thin purple rim. Fat fruit on the nose, with hints of tobaco and some green vegetation. Very concentrated and intense on the palate, but it almost does not change over the midpalate to the aftertaste. The taste is very long and hangs in the back of the mouth for quite a while. Very nicely made, but could I have a bit more character and personality, please.

  • 2004 Dominio Pingus Ribera del Duero Flor de Pingus 95 Points

Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero

Deep black, red color, with a thin purple rim. Intense nose jumps out of the glass, with tobaco, fruit and farm yard - lots of personality in these aromas. Similarly it is huge on the palate, it imidiately fills the mouth with lots of fruit and tastes from the oak. The taste stays in the mouth forever, insane! This has all the power and structure one could wish for, yet it somehow remains extremely elegant. Surprising and wonderful.
