Concept Riesling, Dusseldorf, Germany

Sets the bar pretty high that early in this tasting. I think this was the best bottle I had from the 08 vintage to that date. Super fresh and still young.
A very complex showing. Lovely tension, grip and acidic drive on the palate but also the fruit (white and yellow fruit with some camomile) shows in a wonderful way. The wine feels dry, racy and on the other side has a certain backbone to go the long way. Good to drink now, but in such perfect conditions, this GG can live easily for another decade if not longer.

Very ripe yellow fruit, some cream and a hint of petrol on the nose. Quite round with medium acidity on the palate. Totally lacks the tension and precision you would expect from Dönnhoff and the Hermannshöhle (and the Dellchen later delivered). I think this wasn´t the best bottle and a bit developed in its evolution.

More ripe yellow fruit than the Nahe wines. Some quince, ripe mirabelle and yellow stone fruit mixed with a limy component. On the palate powerful (typical Morstein) with strong acidity, precision, juicy mouthfeel and a lovely mineral driven finish. Still young and with tons of potential left.

Interesting to compare with the GG. Very drinkable with ripe fruit. I miss the acidity and the cut. Good but drink up.

Another try and this time the Premium Version of the dry KR wines showed more open and a bit more balanced & together. The nose starts off with lots of exotic fruit like mango and papaya but turns into more tobacco, parsley and a touch of vanilla but also this slightly "orange wine" component comes up. A very interesting and constantly changing nose. On the palate bone dry but you can feel the extract behind the whole building. Again tobacco in the after taste. Good tension and length with soft edges. Tons of potential und the surface. Better in a decade.

One of the bummers of the tasting imo. Super ripe, honey but without any vibrancy or power. Can´t see a lot of potential to develop in this specific bottle. Quite a strange showing.

Very interesting to see that this bottle of Abtserde was totally different than the one I had in march with the MFW guys. No overripe fruit and this green unripe component here. Lots of herbal notes mixed with mineral and stone fruit aromas on the still super youthful nose. On the palate you have the power but simultaneously the elegance. The two key elements Keller knows to combine (in dry Riesling) today like no other vintner in Germany imo. Bone dry, long, elegant finish. Great showing with upside potential. 94+

Imo the Schlossberg is definitely one, if not the wine of the vintage. We recognized it very quickly. The nose has the ripe yellow fruit, the orange jam and orange zest mixed with the mineral cut and some sage aromas but it also had an slightly off ton which came out more detailed with more air. On the palate without the last precision and length. In the beginning I wasn´t sure if the bottle is corked but with some overthinking I´ll not rate it official here.

Again, a totally different showing than the bottle in march.
One of the most appealing noses of all wines. Wonderful lemon balm, yellow fruit, also some exotic fruit aromas, very fine and super elegant. Juicy with good acidity, nice fruit depth and tension on the palate. Quite long and elegant finish. A very big surprise.

Not as strong as the Kastanienbusch. Again some fruit mixed with herbal aromas on the nose. On the palate a touch too much alcohol for me. Quite broad, although the acidity comes trough pretty strong. Will note improve.

Some herbs and stoney notes on the nose but also juicy, ripe fruit. Quite broad on the palate. Missing the precision and also a touch too sweet. A bummer for me.

More the typical ("old") Keller style with ripe yellow fruit, herbs and some nearly ethereal aromas. Very good acidity structure. Here you get a touch of the phenolic green notes I mentioned in the tasting in march but much less dominant. Very balanced and quite powerful. Nice.

Not many notes taken. Not very precise and a touch too round imo. Maybe I didn´t give the wine enough time to judge it correctly.

One of my favorites. Compact, a bit withdrawn nose with lots of mineral elements but also some yellow/green fruit (typical Nahe style imo). Not too sweet with a wonderful balance although you definitely have some extract here. Lovely precise on the long finish. Upside potential. 94+

I´ve never thought that the Dellchen will win my personal rating off all the great wines we had that evening but I think it did. Besides the Kastanienbusch from Rebholz my biggest surprise. A mineral, citric and herbal driven, lean, super precise Riesling with a still vibrant acidity and a long finish. Surpasses it´s "bigger" brother Hermannshöhle by far this evening, although I doubt, that the HH was in the best shape.

Too ripe for my taste. Lives mostly from the ripe fruit and some caramel notes. Good length. No potential.

Tight, withdrawn nose with lots of mineral and (strange!) blue cheese notes in the beginning. Then the wines opens up a bit and you also get some green/white fruit. Bone dry with some green fruit on the palate. Good acidity drive and minerality on the finish. Super, super young with tons of potential left.

Although the Idig didn´t hide it´s origins with some riper aromas, I also get a beautiful mineral/herbal component on the lovely nose. Also a bit reduction and floral notes. On the palate lush with a lot of power but everything in a very balanced way. Long, elegant finish. Quite a surprise for me. Long life ahead.

2008 Markus Molitor Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese (White Capsule) 87 Points
Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
Typical Molitor extract, some depth but like so often I didn´t get the wine. Some ripe fruit and also some yellow flowers but its too bold without any play between acidity and the power. Okay but nothing more imo. Will not improve.

2008 Van Volxem Scharzhofberger Riesling Pergentsknopp 91 Points

Complex, ripe and a bit too sweet imo. I remember this wine opening up beautifully with air, the last time I had it two years ago. Also no real edge or cut here. Very round and a bit "pleasing". Nevertheless more elegant than the Molitor and for me definitely the better wine in this flight, although it wasn´t a spectacular showing. I´m not sure how it will evolve in the future.
