Tasting at Cave Vinicole de Kientzheim Kaysersberg

A few years ago we tasted at this coop winery and liked their Cremant d'Alsace. We went back to try some more wines but found them to be less to our liking this time around.

• NV Cave Vinicole de Kientzheim-Kaysersberg Crémant d'Alsace Anne Boecklin Blanc des Blancs 87 Points

  France, Alsace, Crémant d'Alsace

  Green tinged in color with a strong bead. The nose seemed to scream Pinot Blanc. Light bodied with flavors of apples and pears, this wine was best on the long finish where it exhibited floral notes. Simple but very drinkable. 50+12+10+8+7 = 87.

  Light salmon skin color. Very large bubbles. Sweet bubblegum and strawberries on the nose. Very poor balance. 50+10+6+6+5 = 77

  Light yellow in color this had a very odd metallic nose. None of the richness of the '00 vintage. Terrible balance. 50+6+6+5+4 = 71

• 1998 Cave Vinicole de Kientzheim-Kaysersberg Gewurztraminer Mambourg 81 Points

  France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru

  Light yellow in color. This wine had little on the nose but was at least varietally correct. Very light bodied and a little watery. Decent roses on the finish. 50+10+7+7+7 = 81

  France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru

  Light yellow in color this featured tropical flavors and scents including pineapple and lychees. Good balance of sugar and acid. Medium bodied. Not complex but an enjoyable wine. 50+12+10+7.5+7.5 = 87
