Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2014 Camel Valley Pinot Noir Brut Rosé 91 Points

United Kingdom, England, South West, Cornwall

Dosage integration has been the theme for this wine during its post disgorgement ageing, but as I mentioned in my previous note, it has done that very successfully by now and it has become a delightful aperitif, with notes of spiced strawberry, honey and a touch of underbrush. Lovely clarity of expression and length. Excellent wine making here.

  • 2011 Joh. Jos. Prüm Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Kabinett 91 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

This is proving a staple for dinner parties recently, this time with roquefort, apple and walnut salad. The acidity really is on the low side, so there is cause for chilling well, but the middle Mosel and JJ Prüm typicity are impressive all the same.

  • 2017 Marcel Lapierre Morgon 90 Points

    France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon

Impeccable purity and lightness of touch, much more charm than the tighter and tougher 2016, wonderful finesse in all simplicity.

  • 2001 Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape 90 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

Final magnum from a small lot of three. Identical to my previous note. Quite a pleasant combination of leathery tannins and some remaining, succulent Grenache fruit. Did well with the Côte de boeuf with green pepper sauce.

  • 2006 August Kesseler Rüdesheimer Berg Roseneck Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel 90 Points

    Germany, Rheingau

A lovely, mature Auslese, elegant rather than extremely rich, with a playful fruit expression (citrus, peach, papaya), pretty good acidity for a 2006 and welcome complexity from some earthy and waxy notes. Well balanced, good length. Lovely match for a tarte fine.
