Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • 2015 Domaine Ostertag Riesling Heissenberg 90 Points

    France, Alsace

Quite nice -- this balances the richness and acidity very well, to form a well-balanced wine, with pleasant complexity. A touch spicy on the finish, with a really rounded texture. Honeyed as well, the acidity keeps this from getting heavy.

  • 2014 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 90 Points

    France, Burgundy, Chablis

Wax top. Really nice, with a surprisingly waxy palate and a slightly slick texture that is cut nicely by the acid. Lean and fairly tart fruits, with good acidity and chalkiness. Not too complex, but the structure is lovely.

  • 2006 R. López de Heredia Rioja Reserva Viña Bosconia 88 Points

Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja

Plenty of the green tones on the nose, with those expected dilly notes. The palate shows a little herbal, and some light but very pleasant red fruits. Grainy and young, this needs more time to settle.

  • 1995 Louis Jadot Corton-Pougets Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot 88 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

Much, much better than the last bottle from the same lot, which was way too poopy. To be sure, there was plenty of that here as well, but there were still some undercurrents of interesting fruit and earth. The palate at this point is all structure -- acid and tannin. This isn't the softest wine, and the fruit is dried and attenuated.

  • 2010 Castello di Neive Barbaresco Albesani Santo Stefano 90 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

The nose on this was fairly expressive when it was popped, but seemed to dumb down quite quickly. Tons of tannin on the palate, which is really the most prominent thing right now, but the red fruit is sweet and pretty, and there are wisps of the perfume that are quite alluring too. Perhaps a hint of spice on the back end?
