Dark fruit and lots of tannins, but it still shows a lot of elegance and depth. Floral, earth, black tea elements. Lots of concentration but it's crisp, too. Curious to see this in 10 years.

In a lineup of such young, dense, tannic wines, this one stood out as the freshest of the bunch. The Cab Franc really stands out here, as I get lots of spicy tobacco, black pepper, leather and herbs. Bright yet young, still structured well, with vibrant acidity and juicy/tangy red cherries and currants. The freshness and elegance here are really attractive.

Lots of ripe cherries and plums with herbs and violets and earth. Elegant aromas, deep and balanced, with a well-built but velvety feel. Lots of floral and earthy complexities. More accessible young than most of the others in the tasting, I'm getting more velvety, suave fruit here and it's really nice.

Dark core of black cherry and cassis fruit on a frame of sturdy tannins. Lots of spicy tones and violets as well. Tannins are a bit more intense than the other Margauxs in the tasting, but the balance is still very nice, and this has a lot of non-fruit complexity to come out with time.

Gorgeous stuff. Deep, complex, concentrated, pure and rich but vibrant, too, with earthy, black tea, anise and rocky complexity. One to age for so many years.

Wow, what a gorgeous wine. The depth here is so serious, with grip that will allow this wine to age for decades, but it's also crisp. Black cherries and currants laced with earth, charcoal, minerals and iron. A beautiful young Lynch-Bages that has a lot to offer the patient. Stellar stuff.

A beautiful young wine. Earthy, spicy, elegant, floral yet deep nose. A vibrant core of fruit, a dustier/taut frame that signifies serious aging potential. Dark but bright fruit with pepper, anise, leather and graphite. I'd love to see what this does in 15 years. I've always loved this estate, but this vintage really popped and stood out among the crowd.

Bold and juicy cassis fruit, fleshy, dark and spicy. Juicy fruit, grippy tannins, vibrant acidity, there's some good tobacco, graphite and scorched earth, significant oak, too. Needs some time to come together, it seems a bit tightly-wound and a bit muted at this point.

I was surprised by how expressive this was. Definitely structured well, but the acidity is vibrant and the fruit is fresh and inviting. Lots of spicy tobacco, pepper, herbs, leather and earth already. Obviously young but already showing lots of promise.

Always a lovely way to end a tasting. This young Guiraud is gorgeous. Such honeyed, floral, apricot-spiced marmalade depth on the nose. Velvety and unctuous on the palate yet the acidity is vibrant. Pure orange, apricot, orange marmalade. Along with complex honey, spiced tea, ginger. Seems almost indestructible for the cellar, but it's so pretty at this young age.

2016 Domaine Nicolas-Jay Pinot Noir Willamette Valley 91 Points
USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
Nice pop of funk, meat and pepper on the nose, on top of vibrant red apples and cherries. Bright fruit, impressive depth, vibrant and tangy and loaded with savory, mushroom, earthy, peppercorn elements. Goes down easily but built well enough to improve for a while. I love discovering new (to me, although this is a relatively new) Pinot project from Willamette, and I really like this style so far.

2015 Turley Zinfandel Fredericks Vineyard 91 Points
USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley
Explosive fruit on the nose, but violets and spices, too. Full and suave on the palate with a juicy, bright feel. Blueberry and raspberries mixed with cocoa, clove, violets, spicy tobacco. Lots of fun but shows that old vine depth and complexity as well.

2014 Constant Cabernet Sauvignon Diamond Mountain Vineyard 93 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley, Diamond Mountain
This wine had deep, enticing, lovely aromatics. A deep core of strong mountain fruit, but also some grippy, earthy tannins and moderating acidity. So full of fruit, but lovely rocky, mineral notes, too. One for 8-10 years in the cellar.

2016 Larkmead Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon 93 Points

A real treat to taste this wine so young. Concentrated and deep but expressive aromatically, and the balance is there for the long haul. Beautiful fruit and earthy undertones.
