A clear step up from both the previous wines, more concentration and richness but still elegant and precise, attractive touch of smoky oak, good persistence. This classic from Meyer-Näkel never disappoints, and in the Ahr context it’s good value too.
As the lady behind the counter in the vinothek said: “Das ist eine ganz andere Adresse”. Built around a firm (almost austere) core of slate minerality which defines the wine, this is pure, precise, transparent, elegant and harmonious, juicy and fresh, well structured but playful and very charming; it delivers intensity without weight, and has excellent length. Top notch, give it five years.
