Flight 1 - Dinner at H & G's (6 Notes)

Five of us did these bottles in over 4 hours and some of Garrett's amazing pepper and cheese stuffed duck breasts.

  • 2000 Husch Vineyards Chardonnay Special Reserve 86 Points

    USA, California, North Coast, Mendocino

Medium gold/amber color, with moderate aged aromas of pear, honeysuckle, pineapple and butter. Light body with smooth acid and weak, soft tannin. Moderate flavors of oak, citrus, pear and spice. Complex and interesting wine with decent balance. Pleasant finish.

  • 2005 Gallo Family Vineyards / Gallo of Sonoma Pinot Noir Sonoma Reserve 83 Points

    USA, California, Sonoma County

Medium garnet color, moderate aroma of red berry, cherry and plum. Light body with fresh/smooth acid and medium astringent tannins. Moderate flavors of black cherry, plum and boozy heat. Short finish. Not complex, not great. Couldn't stand up to the spicy duck breasts (not surprisingly). Won't likely return to this wine.

Medium ruby color, aromatic earth, plum, blackberry, pepper, heat and more pepper. Medium body, fresh acid and high astringent tannins. Plum, blackberry, wood/earth, pepper and jamminess on the palate. Boozy, classic, frisky and a bit harsh this time around.

  • 1998 Bully Hill Vineyards Vidal Blanc Late Harvest 75 Points

    USA, New York, Finger Lakes

This bottle had been opened for many months (I had, in fact, had a glass from this bottle a year earlier), oxidized and rough. Would like to try a fresh bottle.

Flight 2 - Party at Jerome's (3 Notes)

There were many other bottles at this gathering, I was unable to focus on the labels long enough to document them.

Closing

The wine of the whole evening for me was the Wolf Blass Shiraz.
