Initially served too cold. As it warmed up, the wine revealed its origins. Saline, mineral, chalk overlying the lemon and crisp peach fruit. It’s very moreish.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Decanted 2 hours. The nose was vivid - deep, forest, earthy notes with black fruits. The palate is seamless, medium weighted and has good length. There’s some spice here, with a mix of dried herbs too. Very good showing.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
Decanted 30 minutes. Deeply coloured. Dark chocolate and dark fruits dominate the nose. The palate is full bodied, shows a touch of heat in amongst the integrated, toasty oak. It’s ideal with a flavoursome, hearty dish. Drink or hold.
Mid gold. Caramel, tropical fruits, honey, brown sugar. Palate is lush and fills the mouth, but it’s not overblown. Delicious. Balanced. Paired so well with creme caramel.
