Introduction

All wines were tasted blind.

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 1974 Château L'Evangile 86 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Expressive bouquet with a lot of nuances; fruit and pleasant oak. Medium to full bodied. Quite much acidity. There is enough tannin for a few more years, but this wine doesn’t have the constitution for long ageing.

  • 1973 Château La Patache 86 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Amazing! Still purple red in the centre and just a slightly carmine on the edge. Expressive bouquet with cassis, liquorice and iron. A lot of sticky tannin. Massive wine. By far the most concentrated 1973 I ever tasted. Made like in the old days. Can last at least for another decade. Pity it lacks complexity and refinement. 84 for the taste, 88 for the effort. That makes 86, which is a fair score imo.

  • 1971 Château Labégorce-Zédé 87 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Still cassis in the bouquet. Good oak as well and a lot of nuances. There is good mature tannin. Soft and dry, but also a bit sticky. There is a little sweetness. This is a beautiful ripe claret with a lot of finesse.
