Fantastic long weekend trip to Walla Walla to attend the Va Piano Harvest Dinner. Had some great tastings with friends Bobbi, Randy, Katy and Greg, including personal tastings with several top winemakers.

  Combination of Barbera 55% and Nebbiolo 45%. Translucent with light-medium body. Musky aromas. Tart cherry. Not a bad wine but not my cup of tea.

  Walla Walla g. Cuneo tasting room with Gino Cuneo. Interesting wine. Slightly cloudy, medium body. Port-like aromas with a hot, cherry liquor taste but not too sweet. Christine liked this wine.

  Cotes de Ciel tasting room in downtown Walla Walla. Holmes family private label from Ciel du Cheval Vineyard. Ruby colored with medium body and a medium long finish. Aromatic black cherry and licorice. Sweet cherry with medium length and a slight peppery finish.

  Tasting in the Walla Walla downtown tasting room. Very nice Merlot. Floral aromas. Medium to full bodied, jammy with rich cherry and firm tannins and a long, juicy finish.

  Walla Walla downtown tasting room. Nice Red Mountain Ciel du Cheval Cabernet. Dark fruit and tobacco aromas. Dark cherry with well integrated, lush tannins and a medium-long finish.

  Walla Walla downtown tasting room. 50% Merlot, 33% Cabernet Sauvignon and 17% Cabernet Franc. Cedar aromas. Smooth and mellow from the Merlot. Soft tannins and licorice. Easy drinking.

  Afternoon private tasting at Va Piano with winemaker Justin Wylie. Big, delicious wine. Blueberry and menthol aromas. Full bodied, juicy and succulent with smooth tannins, blueberries and licorice. Long finish with an acidic burst.

• 2017 Va Piano Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc Chelle Den Millie 93 Points

  Private tasting with winemaker Justin Wylie. My new favorite Savignon Blanc! This is just fantastic and a unique Sav Blanc. The concrete egg fermentation keeps this crisp and minerally. Green apple aromas. Tastes start off on the front of the tongue with effervescent grapefruit and finishing with succulent melon and green apple. Will be buying a bunch of these for next summer.

Billo was incredibly generous, spent almost an hour and a half with our group. Explained a lot about his history and winemaking philosophy.

  CabSav 59%, Merlot 31%. Ruby red, partly translucent. Medium body with lots of red fruits, tart cherry, raspberries and smooth tannins. I didn't get any of the spiciness or bitter chocolate mentioned in the Vinous review. A little on the tart side for my taste, which I often find with some Cab/Merlot blends.

  Bright Ruby. Light tobacco aromas. Medium-full bodied. Definite presence of tannins but under control, a bit of bitter skin aftertaste with a medium long acidic finish, making it a good food wine.
