Big nose, big fruit. Screams Califorina! Ripe and complex with a wonderfully long finish.

Big nose, but a bit more herbal than the 92. A slight mint component to go with the big fruit. A bit rougher tannins than the 1992.

Big fruit bomb. Cassis liquor and only a hint of vanilla. Almost tastes like a barrel sample. Packed, but needs time.

Huge wine. Tastes like a barrel sample. Lots of sweet cassis fruit, with no signs of oak (due to the incredible amounts of fruit extract). A bit monolithic right now and a bit hard to taste, but all the pieces are in place for a masterpiece.

Tough, tannic wine. Good concentration, and although not green, it has some nice herbs to it. Tough tannins that need time to be tamed.

Mint, cassis, and some semi-mature notes. Overall a bit thin with some harsh tannins.

Thick, concentrated wine. Cassis, with some hints of mint, herbs and black olives which add complexity (not herbaceousness). Brooding yound wine.

BIG BIG nose of cedar and spice. Maturing tastes, but still has plenty of life. Cedar seems to dominate; I would like to see a bit more fruit. Still a WOW wine for the big nose and long finish.

Dark in color. Tight nose, yet very filling on the palate. Packed with fruit. Seems almost California-like. Needs time.

Funky, and perhaps some volatile acidity? Not a wow wine, but drinkable.

Lovely wine. Fruity and earthy. Still has time to improve.

A mature tasting Bordeaux. Complex aromas. A bit more years of life left in this wine, but on its downward cycle, I would suspect.

Volatile acidity. Thin, weedy and vinegary. Unpleasant.

A mature bordeaux with nice minerals and earth flavors. A bit short on the finish, though.

Tight nose. Not giving much up at this tasting. Seems to have the prerequisite concentration and balance.

Thick, rich wine, especially given the age. Might actually still be improving. Mouthfilling wine that hits all the cracks in the palate. Wonderful.

Seems a bit mediorce at this tasting. Perhaps a bit of volatile acidity? Tasted from a half bottle.

Lovely wine. Still young, but showing the typical Paulliac scents of lead pencil and tabbaco. Fine finish.

Big wine. Classic White Burgundy aromas and tastes of petrol, barnyard, and tabacco. Leesy finish. Would be a WOW wine, but the hot finish was a slight detraction.

Cherry, herbs. A tough wine that is still a bit young. Will be nice.

Light. Some spiciness to this wine, but a bit on the tired side.

Tight nose, but very mouth-filling juice here. Tannic, but has wonderful balance and delicacy.

Spicy, and some fruit still clinging on. Tannic, but the tannins are very smooth. Long finish.

Tight nose. Mature nose. Some dusty oak and dusty red fruits. Acidic and hard. Must be a food wine.

Musty oak. Dusty mushrooms and earth. Lots of terroir here. Hard and acidic.

Honey, vanilla, and some minerals. A bit underwhelming, given the expectations of this wine. Seemed a bit watery. Perhaps it was served too cold?

Mature aromas of leather and earth. Lots of shoe polish, leather, and a bit of fruit. Typical traditional Rioja. Seemed to have gained a bit more weight with air. Nice QPR.

Rich caramel and honey. Sweet, but still has the acidity to balance this wine out. Powerful, yet characteristicly light on its feet.

1994 Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Clos Windsbuhl 90 Points

Ripe fruit character, some minerals, but thinner than I would have thought, given the reviews. Very nice wine.

1992 Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Rangen de Thann Clos St. Urbain 90 Points

Spicy, smokey wine. A bit of cinnamin? Pleasant, but not a blockbuster.

Nice, pleasant Gewurtz. Some spiceness, but lacks power. A bit watery? Perhaps lacking acidity as well?

Dark yellow in color. Unbelievable amounts of extract in this wine. Massive, huge, and monstorous. Thick, spicy, nutty, and mineraly. Incredibly, complex wine with an unending finish. Wow! White wine doesn't get much better than this.

1994 Zind-Humbrecht Gewurztraminer Hengst Vendange Tardive 95 Points

Big, massive wine. Full of spicy, nutty fruit. Wonderfully long finish, but not as spectacular as the 94 Clos Windsbuhl.

1991 Zind-Humbrecht Tokay Pinot Gris Clos Jebsal Sélection de Grains Nobles 100 Points
France, Alsace
Perfection. This is more food than wine. Has the viscosity of motor oil. Chunky, fruity, spicy, ethereal. The finish never ends. A mind-blowing experience. Incredibly sweet, but, of course, it has enough acidity for balance. Almost painfully intense. This might last a century!
