  • 2006 Folonari Pinot Grigio Delle Venezie 85 Points

    Italy, Delle Venezie

    Pale greenish-yellow, moderate nose of citrus, nectarines, flowers and some minerals. Light body, lively acid and moderate flavors of apples, citrus with a touch of bitterness. Long finish and carries well through the mid-palate. Pleasantly surprised as I don't expect much from Italian Pinot Grigio, or any Pinot Grigio for that matter.

Flight 2 - Reds (4 Notes)

It's worth noting here that the crew did not agree on the merits of the Zaca Mesa Rhone blend, however, I write the notes, and I liked it. This was my Wine of the Night up until the Ridge.

    France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Villages

    Pale greenish yellow, weak nose of honey, mineral steeliness and touch of smoke (not sure where this come from). Light body, lively acid with weak flavors of steely citrus, very round in the mouth. Good balance, very enjoyable.

  • 2006 Cloudline Pinot Noir 87 Points

    USA, Oregon

    Medium ruby color, tight nose of diaper/funk, red fruit and some wood. Lively acid, weak but astringent tannins and moderate flavors of cherry, raspberry, lots of spice, oak and some minerals. A touch hot. Long finish with great fruit and nice balance.

    Italy, Tuscany, Chianti

    Pale to medium ruby color, moderate nose of funk, red fruit and wood. Medium body with fresh acid and medium astringent tannins. Moderate flavors of funk and red fruit, shows alcohol. Long finish. BIG structure, but overall good fruit and balance.

  • 2004 Zaca Mesa Z Cuvée 89 Points

    USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley

    Deep to dark purple-red color with a moderate nose of barnyard, inky dark fruit, iodine, plum, oak and some bramble. Medium body, fresh acid and high but soft tannins, moderate flavors of spice, plum, wood and tons of earthy berries. Long port like finish. Nice, nice wine.

  • 2005 Ridge Zinfandel Paso Robles 90 Points

    USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles

    Deep ruby color, with moderate nose of blackberry jam, oak and some funky earth. Medium heavy body, smooth acid and high silky tannins. Powerful flavors of blackberry tart, tobacco, spice and bramble. Long finish with wonderful balance and fruit focus. Showing some heat late in the finish. Damn nice.

Overall an above average selection of wines, no floppers.
