My home - Chicago IL
Tasted Thursday, September 17, 2020 by Burgundy Al with 144 views
Got together with several friends on my deck, where we could maintain safe COVID distancing and precautions.
Open an hour before tasting. Served alongside the 2008, this was richer and denser, but less precise or energetic.

Open an hour before tasting. Served alongside the 2009, this was less fleshy but very bright and long with plenty of both ripe and tart orchard fruit. Very good length. Better now vs when last tasted shortly after release.

Open two hours before serving, mostly in a decanter. Spice-driven start with lots of red, black and blue berry aromas. Powerful start with elegant and bright textures through to long finish. Alongside the 2006, then also tasted alongside the 2008 Clos de la Roche in the next flight.

Alongside the 2008. Open two hours before serving, mostly in a decanter. Earthy aromas and flavors with complex array of berries. Similar profile to the 2008, but I would have thought this at least five years older. But this held up wonderfully through almost five hours after initially poured.

Opened 2 1/2 hours before serving, mostly in a decanter. Served alongside the 2011 CdlR, as well as next to the 2008 CSD from the previous flight. Much like the CSD 2008 but more powerful and meaty with even better precision. Very good length with very engaging textures. Great now, with further upside.

Opened 2 1/2 hours before serving, mostly in a decanter. Served alongside the 2008 CdlR. Charming red berry and good spice throughout. Similar profile to the 2008, just lacking the nuances, concentration or gravitas of the older vintage.

Opened, decanted an hour+. Lots of rich and fleshy black fruit comes across with very good weight, just very one dimensional for now. Very good potential, but hold until at least 2025, or (better yet) even longer.

Opened, decanted an hour+. Mostly black cherry with some red cherry and Boeuf Bourgignon, with very engaging textures. Good weight is appropriate for its level, but the complexity and textures are real stars here.

Opened a couple of hours in advance. Lots of textural charm, much like the Estournelles-St.-Jacques from the previous flight, even if not quite as elegant or bright. Still, very engaging black fruit coming across as wonderfully fresh.

Opened a couple of hours in advance. Much less forthcoming vs the 2010, this came across as brawny but probably shut down for now. Still firm on Day Two.

Oddly lackluster and blocky with little pleasure, but no clear flaw. An odd bottle that was identical on Day Two. This and the Pierre Bourée were served blind alongside the LLM Cazetiers '10 and '12. We knew these two were either another 10/12 vertical or a '10 or '12 horizontal. There were such stylistic differences, it was clear they were n't from the same producer, and the polish of "Wine 2" (what turned out to be the Bourée) made me think 2010.

Mostly black cherry, some red cherry with roasted meat, thyme and black pepper. Already very nuanced, this is an absolutely engaging weight, even with its medium/good weight. This and the Jadot were served blind alongside the LLM Cazetiers '10 and '12. We knew these two were either another 10/12 vertical or a '10 or '12 horizontal. I have rarely (never?) had a Pierre Bourée I've enjoyed in probably twenty years. There were some great ones from the '60s that I bought at Brookline Liquor in the '80s, but nothing after that...until tonight. Where did they get this juice?

Served blind to the group, telling them it was Grand Cru. Mature red cherry on nose and palate with earth and baking spice. Very good weight and balance. Best of the 4 bottles I've opened from this 1/2 case purchased a few years ago.

NV Camille Savès Champagne Grand Cru Brut Rosé 89 Points

Floral aromatic start with bright apple aromas. Similar flavors with lemon hints and a good burst of energy in the middle, making this surprisingly Chardonnay-driven for a producer I typically associate with Pinot Noir.
