Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • 2007 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Served alongside the Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey version. This was rich and fleshy with plenty of fresh and dried stone fruit and some honeycomb notes. Very rich and dense, but showing more age than my previous bottle from the same purchase opened one year ago. My last of 4 bottles, and it was time to drink up.

  • 2007 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Meursault 1er Cru Charmes 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Popped-and-poured, this was moderately reductive to start, which never completely dissipated through the evening. But still, rich apple and pear were evident with good weight, even if somewhat hidden. The last 1/2 glass was finished a day later, and was much more open and expressive.

  • 2000 Gros Frère et Sœur Grands-Echezeaux 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru

Opened an hour before serving, then enjoyed over the next three hours. An increasing amount of baking spice slowly emerged over the time in glass, with slowly maturing red cherry and berry throughout. Still on the brash side, with good weight for its level, certainly great freshness for a 2000. Served alongside Mugneret-Gibourg 2000 Echezeaux, I could never decide which I preferred.

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru

Opened an hour before serving, then enjoyed over the next three hours. Plenty of red and black cherry, both fresh and maturing with Chinese five spice. Good+ weight and impeccable balance. Served alongside Gros Frère 2000 Grands-Echezeaux, I could never decide which I preferred.
