Introduction

My mother-in-law and her boyfriend have spent several months visiting us in Seattle each of the last 3 summers. This year they will be spending closer to 6 months here, and today they completed a 4-day drive cross country from Tampa to arrive in time for dinner and to play with their 2 year old grandson.

Flight 1 (1 Note)

As they walked in the door I popped a cork on a 375ml of Rose Champagne so we could have a quick toast. And while I prepared dinner they sipped this with cheese and crackers.

Flight 2 (1 Note)

Dinner was a simple affair, grilled wild King salmon, grilled asparagus, grilled rapini, sauteed shiitake mushrooms Asian style, and steamed rice. With it I uncorked a Pinot that I though would match well with the salmon, and indeed the match was perfect.

Mmm, this is a lovely Pinot, almost striking me as RRV rather than Sonoma Coast. Nicely perfumed, elegant in fact with sour cherry, clove and that classic Pinot 'twang.' The mouthfeel is lovely with beautiful acidity, sweet and sour, gorgeously vibrant and lively. A hint of orange peel show up on the mouthwatering finish.
