Introduction

Lovely dinner on their terrace with Todd and Liz, looking east over Lake Michigan. Fabulous roast capon with pork/sage dressing, green beans, and a root vegetable medly that incuded turnips, celery, carrots, cabbage, and baby potatoes.

Flight 2 (1 Note)

  • 1975 Château Beychevelle 88 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien

Confirm previous note. this is a 30 year old wine, but great color and moderate sediment..decanted and poured immediately. Fruits are on their way out, but the wine had great balance and the tannins had smoothed out very nicely. Left with dried herbs, leather, some cedar, a bit of peat. Very interesting experience and in reasonably good shape

Flight 3 (1 Note)

  • 1986 Château Lynch-Bages 90 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Very nice Lynch Bages, complex fruits with mullberries, plums, cassis up front. Also noted some green pepper up front..cab franc factor? Great mouthfeel and finish. Not sure this will go too much longer, after 20 minutes in the glass, it was fading

Flight 4 (1 Note)

  • 1990 Château Lynch-Bages 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

Todd tried this last two years ago and said it wasn't ready, try again in two year so we did! This is a monster Lynch Bages with teeth gripping tannins prominent in the mouthfeel. Nevertheless, it is coming around..fruits include plums and cassis, cedar, and a bit of green pepper, and a touch of anise in the finish that goes on and on..lovely balance; 1 hour later in glass it was even better! Great future prospect, 92 is my current score but this has upside potential

Closing

Interesting progression in the wines. The 1975 Beycheville was interesting in its own right, and hanging in there. The Lynch Bages were a treat, with the 1990 clearly the WOTN
