Introduction

This was going to be spectacular, so decided to open up for some wine history.

Flight 1 - Wine history (3 Notes)

A btl of Priorat from before Priorat was Priorat and one btl of Bierzo from before the hipsters claimed Murcia. And wife's wagyu steak...

  • 1994 Palacio de Arganza Bierzo 94 Points

    Spain, Castilla y León, Bierzo

Deep, beautiful red with a fine structure. Blueberries, red fruit, tasty acidity and a good share of tannic backbone.
    Would happily drink again :-)

  • 1987 Rotllan Torra Priorat Gran Reserva 96 Points

    Spain, Catalunya, Priorat

Absolutely pristine and stunning wine with a youthful appearance. No oxidisation at all, not qualifying as "old". This stunning oddity with 70% Grenache and 30% Cabernet sauvignon would be rather confusing in a blind tasting. The best of two worlds at the same time. Has restrained elegance á la Bdx as well as a warm and welcoming component. Blastingly beautiful. Exceptional!

Has a lot to offer for many years to come.
    Married wife's perfect wagyu steak.

  • 1991 Granducato Brunello di Montalcino 93 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

Still very young and best on day 3.
Took over 5 hours in the decanter before it started to unfurl it's exceptional cherrie, fruit and tannins. Superbly elegant in a most beautiful transparent style. Autumn leaves, pipe tobacco and acids to die for. Highly satisfying tannins.

Should rest some odd 20 or so more years before reaching its peak.

Flight 2 - A btl of Lambrusco

What a plummy, yummy treat!
Together with great cheese...

Closing

Hugely satisfying wines. Better than I deserve. So fantastic I wanted to write ecstatic poetry, but fell asleap. Like a failed Charles Bukowski wannabe.
