Flight 1 (4 Notes)

  • 2015 Domaine Jean Chartron Corton-Charlemagne 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

Nose: The nose is forward, expressive, and deep with peaches, lemon curds, red apples, stone fruits, oils, yellow flowers, vanilla, custard, and some jasmine notes. There is an understated power to this while it shows off great balance and poise.

Taste: The feel is Full bodied with tart, medium+ acidity. There is good density and depth to the feel with peaches, lemon curds, red apples, yellow flowers, vanilla, stone fruits, and jasmine.

Overall: This is young, but it is also fairly open with some air. It could likely benefit from another 3+ years of aging but it is also providing some real joy right now.

  • 2015 Benjamin Leroux Corton-Charlemagne 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru

Nose: The nose is deep and pungent with ginger, peaches, apples, quince, pears, white flowers, meyer lemons, a touch of flint, crushed rocks saline, and white flowers. This is the kind of nose that you get lost in and it isn't holding back after several hours of air.

Taste: The feel is Full bodied with tart, high acidity. There is some punch to the acidity right now that shows off its youth while the feel is deep and balance with ginger, peaches, quince, meyer lemons, crushed rocks, saline, and white flowers.

Overall: This needs a few hours to open up, but it is accessible right now with some planning. Otherwise it could use another 5+ years to fully show itself off.

  • 2010 Lucien Le Moine Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Hauts-Doix 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Nose: It took a little bit to get going, but once it did the nose was intoxicating and perfumed with red cherries, plums, red berries, roses, earth tones, tobacco, spice notes, violets, and wild flowers. There is so much depth and perfume that it is difficult to take your nose away from the glass.

Taste: The feel is Medium bodied with crisp, medium+ acidity and silky, medium+ tannins. There is an immense amount of poise and depth with a lighter touch to the feel with red cherries, red berries, plums, roses, tobacco, violets, and wild flowers.

Overall: This is a pure beauty right now. This is drinking perfectly right now with the aromatics just being a complete knock out. This still has a long life ahead of itself as this should provide a lot of joy for years to come.

  • 2004 Arcadian Syrah Hommage à Max 92 Points

USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Ynez Valley

Nose: The nose is rich, yet expressive with dark red cherries, plums, blackberries, raspberries, licorice, meaty notes, pepper, and some liqueur. There is a lot of complexity and this has developed beautifully.

Taste: The feel is Full bodied with medium acidity and resolved, medium tannins. There is a plushness to the feel along with excellent depth and tones of dark red cherries, blackberries, raspberries, licorice, meaty notes, pepper, and some liqueur tones.

Overall: This is a real treat. It has held up and developed beautifully over the years to where it shows off the rich, dense, black fruits of the region while also providing that meaty, savory quality that I really enjoy from the grape.
