France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Incredibly rich and textured with so much of so many things here. Nicely ripe with just enough sweetness from botrytis hints, all well supported with peach, baked apple and spice from start-to-finish. Incredibly complex and layered, this should drink beautifully and evolve nicely for decades going forward.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
Darker color than I expected, but incredibly bright and fresh aromas and flavors. Very floral with grapefruit, lemon and lemon peel, this started out subdued but was powerful and explosive once open 30-35 minutes. This kept getting bigger, bigger and bigger as it progressed, seemingly providing an ultra long 100 second (?) finish. Upside from here.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
In 2002/2010 Echezeaux / Grands-Echezeaux horizontal / vertical flight. Glorious aromatic start that is unmistakably Domaine de la Romanée-Conti with its spice and array of bright red fruit. Similar flavors with wonderful balance and good weight, but without the density and explosiveness of the Grands-Echezeaux.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
In 2002/2010 Echezeaux / Grands-Echezeaux horizontal / vertical flight. Much less forthcoming vs the other three wines served alongside, which didn't surprise me to start but did surprise me 2+ hours later. Spice and red fruit throughout, this had more concentration than the 2002, but less complexity and elegance. Certainly very good and enjoyable, but I expected more.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
In 2002/2010 Echezeaux / Grands-Echezeaux horizontal / vertical flight. The 2002 Echezeaux was more charming to start, but this blew right past it after 15-20 minutes in glass. Floral and perfumed with so much red cherry and berry in front of faintly emerging earth notes. great depth, weight and balance. More enjoyable today vs the 2010 Grands-Echezeaux, even if not quite as concentrated.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru
In 2002/2010 Echezeaux / Grands-Echezeaux horizontal / vertical flight. Spice driven nose with lots of red and black cherry emerging with more air. The palate was reticent to start, but powerful and enticing after 30 minutes in glass. Even more depth, weight and balance than the 2002 Grands-Echezeaux, even if not quite as charming today. So much upside, this is almost just entering its drinking window, which I'd consider 2025-2050.
