  • 2005 Two Hands Shiraz Ares 94 Points

Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

I'm a big fan of this producer and this wine doesn't disappoint. The nose was a medley of licorice, tar, boysenberry, blackberry, and earth, with notes of chocolate toward the end. The palate had the same flavors as was on the nose.

  • 2006 Torbreck (Cuvée) Juveniles 91 Points

Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

I loved the cranberry on the nose of this wine. It also had some raspberry and leather, and a little cherry at the end. The palate was very spicy, with a nice balance of red and dark fruit, and hints of earth on the finish.

  • 2006 Mitolo Shiraz Savitar 90 Points

Australia, South Australia, Fleurieu, McLaren Vale

This wine had a little too much oak for my taste, but it was pretty good nonetheless. The nose was dominated by toasted oak, with a little tar, licorice, and blueberry thrown in. The palate was also mainly oak, but had some good blueberry, and dollop of licorice, and an earthy finish.

  • 2006 R Wines Grenache Bitch 89 Points

Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley

This wine was pretty interesting. Because the wine received no oak treatment, it had an almost rose-like quality. The nose had rhubarb and earth, hints of strawberry and cherry, and a little smoke on the finish. The palate had lots of strawberry and earth, cherry in the middle, and a slight hint of smoke on the finish.
