Fun to have some flexibility to organize a chill tasting, all served in flights of two. All bottles are showing well, some beyond expectations. Krug 156 en Magnum from original release stole the show, however.
NV Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée Edition 156eme 96 Points
France, Champagne
Magnum, base 2000, disgorged October 2008. Creamy ethereal heaven, sweet spice, orange rind acidity, baked apples, vanilla pastry cream, toasted brioche. All the Krug fantasies but so much more defined, lifted and ethereal. Power underneath. So deep. Precision at every turn. Pure graceful bliss in a glass. Age does wonder! 95–96

2018 Jérôme Prévost Champagne La Closerie Extra Brut Les Beguines 93 Points
France, Champagne
LC18. So clear, flint, reductive kind of oxidation, precise, mouthwatering. Another day another friend is introduced to the wonder of La Closerie! 93-94

1990 Bollinger Champagne R.D. Extra Brut 94 Points
France, Champagne
Orange rind in color, superbly fresh, deep in flavors, subtle sweetness, mellow acidity. Very consistent vintage for Champagne. 94-95

1995 Bollinger Champagne La Grande Année 93 Points
France, Champagne
Somewhat thinner and less complex than 90 RD. Still very good toasty notes signature to the house. 93

1999 Bouchard Père et Fils Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets Ancienne Cuvée Carnot 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Newly released Magnum, served next to 99 L'Enfant Jesus. Superb, all the vintage ripeness, sweet, dark cherries, inky fruit, toned florals. Great energy throughout the palate. I think this can be put up against some weaker Grand Cru in terms of structure, and certainly more balanced than the lot of them. 93+

1999 Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Vigne de L'Enfant Jesus 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
Served next to 1999 Volnay Caillerets en Magnum. Equal vintage ripeness, if more toned. This has more depth and clarity, very precise, graceful even. I'm glad some people are changing their opinion on this wine based on the bottle today. It can age and is certainly more profound than some of the "higher" appellations! 93+

2009 Domaine du Coeur Chambertin Cuvée Spéciale 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru
Benefited from more air and this is a completely different expression than last bottle. Sweet cherry fruit, higher acidity, cloudy even, great energy, decent finish. Clearly a wine of substance, and quite charming one, too. 92-93

1999 Louis Latour Chambertin Cuvée Héritiers Latour 92 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru
Also benefitted from air, to show a nice degree of vintage ripeness. Nothing herbal/bitter as afraid of in the first smell. Some good structure here. Decently long finish. 92
