• NV Frédéric Savart / Drémont Père & Fils Champagne Grand Cru Éphémère 004

  France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

  Out of magnum (believe it was only made in magnum, 946 total) to start off Thanksgiving. Chardonnay bubbly with a small percentage of Pinot noir Coteaux added. Crimson end of pink. Light red and pink fruits on the nose. Nice and rich, watermelon and strawberry, orange citrus finish. Tasty champagne.

• 2014 Under The Wire Sparkling Oakville Farmhouse Vineyard

  pale yellow, a little spicy, sour apple, lots of acid still, really spicy. Seems to really speak of Oakville in a sparkling, really interesting.

• 2001 Stryker Sonoma Cabernet Sauvignon Monte Rosso Vineyard

  Intermezzo between soup/salad and dinner. Perfect fill, perfect cork, color shoes no sign of age. Nose full of. Cassis and leather nose. This is clearly cab and clearly Sonoma. Cassis and bright red fruit, a little sweet, early tertiary notes, but still screaming of youth. Very cheap bottle at auction, what incredible value.

  USA, California, Sierra Foothills

  A blend of 70% viognier, 15% roussanne and 15% Grenache Blanc. 45 minute decant, oak is starting to integrate more. Richness in the mouth, vanilla, right yellow fruit. Still years to go.

A fun US vs. Natural France flight, most agreed the Sonoma Pinots were superior with the Thanksgiving meal (held up better against the food), while the French were better for drinking separately

• 2019 Domaine Chanterêves Pernand-Vergelesses Les Boutières

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pernand-Vergelesses

  4 hour decant. fairly translucent, light crimson, slight reductiveness, dark berries on the nose. Light, raspberry, cranberry, acid finish. A bit tough at the moment, so tuck them away.

  4 hour decant. dark translucent crimson. Spiced nose, shoes some oak. Sweet red berries, strawberry. Some tannin, clear Sonoma but really nice.

A fun late harvest Sauvignon Blanc from New Zealand. Highly acclaimed and very underpriced bottle perfect with pies.

  New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough

  Golden yellow. Apricot and honey nose. Apricot, peach, honeydew, lovey sweetness. Wonderful desert wine.
