Heidi's, Minneapolis
Tasted Wednesday, March 19, 2008 by Siggy with 440 views
A subset of the Kitchen Tasting Group met at Heidi's, our semi-regular Wednesday evening hang-out in south Minneapolis, for an evening of Burgundies. This week I was joined by Dave Dalluge, Chris Larson, and Craig Vanderah. The two Dujacs showed well, and I am becoming a big fan of their efforts in 2001.
2002 Domaine Michel Noëllat Bourgogne 86 Points

A small sample pour from the list at Heidi's. Nice earthy strawberry fruit and light spice. Medium body. Fresh and lively and tasty. An excellent Bourgogne.

2004 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Bougros Côte Bouguerots 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Second time I've had this. Consistent with prior TN. Bursting with concentrated, steely lime/citrus fruit and minerals. Racy acidity. Fresh, bracing, and very tight. Really excellent.

2004 Mount Eden Vineyards Pinot Noir 88 Points
USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
Dark maroon color. Heady, rich flavors of macerated red cherries, followed by cola, root beer, cinnamon, and licorice. Thick, plush mouthfeel. Showing a fair amount of oak. This is showing well now, and while this is not a long ager, it will probably improve with another year or two in the cellar.

2001 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Clos de la Roche 89 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
This showed slightly better overall than previous bottles from the same retail source -- the nose was more complex and expressive, but the finish was slightly more compact. Ripe dark cherries, minerals, and dried herbs. Light- to medium-bodied.

1996 Domaine Dujac Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Dark cherries and lots of spice. This has almost New World levels of ripeness and an assertive, earthy, stemmy personality. Medium finish. Excellent, but a bit clunkier than the 2001, tasted side-by-side (see TN).

2001 Domaine Dujac Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Aux Combottes 93 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
Tasted side-by-side with the 1996 (see TN), and to my palate, noticeably better. Sappy, ripe, stemmy dark fruit. Nicely expressive despite its youth. Sleek and velvety, with a long, mineral-laced finish. Still showing a fair amount of youthful oak. My WOTN.

NV Jacquesson & Fils Champagne Cuvée No. 729 90 Points
France, Champagne
Ordered off the list to pair with our cheese course. Third time I've had this. This bottle tasted more advanced than the others, and had chunkier bubbles, but still showed nice toast dry citrus flavors.
