Various wines tasted before service.
1st flight was a Vins wines (Triantafylou) portfolio tasting
2nd flight was 3 champagnes, brought by importer to taste

  • 2015 Domaines Schlumberger Gewurztraminer Kitterlé

    France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru

    Terrain: this volcanic-sandstone plot is on a unique site, on a steeply sloping rocky outcrop facing three ways (SW, S, SE). The light, sandy soil, which is kept back by huge drystone walls, only gives very low yields
    Production: whole grape pressing, static racking, maturation on fine lees 8 months
    -semi sweet-
    The wine is highly extrovert, floral, rosewater, Turkish delight, tropical fruit, pineapple.
    The wine is smooth and easy, refreshing, tropical notes, fresh and spicy, very say drinking, light body and medium finish

  • 2013 Domaines Schlumberger Pinot Gris Kitterlé

    France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru

    Terrain: the Kitterle is a volcanic sandstone soil occupying a unique site on mountain ledges, on a rocky spur exposed to three directions (SW, S, SE). The light and sandy soil retained by immense dry stone walls allows only a limited yield (25-35 hl/ha)
    Production: entire grapes are pressed, matured on fine lees for 8 months
    -semi sweet-
    The wine is very impressive, spicy, light earthy, tropical fruit, peach peel.
    The wine is beautiful in palate, juicy and delicate, balanced, citrus, lemon, lime, pineapple, yellow apple, apricot, peach, medium body and medium spicy finish

  • 2017 Domaines Schlumberger Riesling Kitterlé

    France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru

    Terrain: volcanic-sandstone plot in a unique site on a steeply sloping rocky outcrop facing three ways (SW, S, SE). The light, sandy soil is kept back by huge dry stonewalls, giving very low yields (25-35 hl/ha)
    Production: handpicked, whole bunch pressed, 8 months on lees
    -dry-

    The wine is tight, pure Riesling, cirrus, lime with a touch of earthy note.
    The wine is nice in palate, borderline dry (even for Alsatians), lime, citrus, grapefruit, green leafy, medium and finish.

  • 2018 Domaines Schlumberger Gewurztraminer Les Princes Abbés

    France, Alsace

    Terrain: comes mainly from the named localities of Bollenberg and Bux as well as from the young vines from the estate’s grand cru vineyards
    Production: maturation on less 6-8 months
    -semi sweet-

    Quite low intensity in the nose, light citrus, more impressive in the palate, citrus, tropical fruit, rosewater, crunchy fruit, light body, smooth medium finish. The residual sugar offers balance.

    Terrain: primarily produced in the named locality of Schimberg, situated in the valley of Guebwiller, on a volcanic subsoil with south exposure
    Production: matured on less 6-8 months
    -dry-
    The wine shows freshness in the nose, ripe fruit, extrovert, juicy and spicy
    The wine shows spicy palate, ripe fruit, stone fruit, pear, melon, lemon, yellow apple, medium body, nice acidity and medium finish

  • 2017 Domaines Schlumberger Riesling Les Princes Abbés

    France, Alsace

    Terrain: planted essentially in the locality of Bollenberg and in the vines of Saering and Kessler and also in the young vineyards of the Kitterle
    Production: matured on less for 6-8 months
    -dry-
    The wine shows flinty, smoky, rubbery, plastic notes with some refreshing green knettle notes
    The palate is tight, medium acidity, green leafy, citrus, lemon and grapefruit notes, medium body and finish.
    The wine lacks depth, plus why would an Alsatian Riesling smell like an Aussie one?

  • 2008 Recaredo Corpinnat Reserva Particular de Recaredo

    Spain, Catalunya, Corpinnat

    Varieties: 60% Macabeu, 40% Xarel-lo
    Terrain: Reserva Particular is made using grapes from a selection of old vineyards on three Recaredo estates – Pedra Blanca, Can Romeu and Can Rossell de la Serra – circumscribed by the Anoia River and the Salada, Can Bautista and Laverno gullies. The soils are highly calcareous and have a silt-loam texture.
    Limited edition: 5090 bottles
    Ageing in bottle: minimum of 10 years and 7 months
    Brut nature

    The wine shows warm profile, with yeast, toast, ripe peach, citrus and pears, floral notes and a few heavier ones (like paint ?)
    The heavy paint/glue note is evident in the palate too, citrus, yest, medium body and carbonation, medium acidity and finish.
    Maybe not the best bottle ?

    Varieties: 86% Monastrell, 14% Garnatxa
    Terrain: the grapes are grown in highly calcareous, loamy soils (balanced mix of sand, silts, clays)
    Ageing in bottle: minimum 47 months

    The wine shy, strawberry, currant, a few bitter notes, cherry, light carbonation, medium body and finish

    Varieties: 68% Xarel-lo, 20% Macabeu, 6% Monastrell, 6% Parellada
    Terrain: the grapes are grown in highly calcareous, loamy soils (balanced mix of sand, silts, clays)
    Ageing in bottle: minimum 33 months

    The wine is extrovert, showing lime, fresh grapefruit, pineapple and peach. The wine shows texture in palate, high acidity, citrus, earth notes, grapefruit bitter finish

  • 2019 Autocton Celler Malvasia de Sitges Mas Vilella

    Varieties: Malvasia de Sitges, single vineyard
    Terrain: stony, poor calcareous clay soil
    Altitude: 250m
    Production: fermented and aged for 10 months in large French oak barrels of 300-400lt and clay amphorae in their own lees, batonnage each week

    The wine shows spicy character in the nose, incense, citrus peel, decadent altogether.
    The wine is smooth in the palate, medium to full body, spices, ripe citrus, grapefruit, lemon, white peach, tropical fruit, mineral, high acidity, long finish
    Outstanding quality, very interesting

  • 2016 Autocton Celler Catalunya Gran Autòcton

    Spain, Catalunya

    Varieties: 100% Sumoll 50-90yo
    Terrain: poor, clay and some calcareous soils
    Altitude: 300-500m

    The wine shows earthy notes first but with some air (and time) in the glass, you also get nice fresh black fruit, mineral, vanilla/sweet spice sweetness.
    The wine shows smooth palate, pure fruit, cherry, bubblegum, medium acidity and body, bitter tannins, and medium finish

  • 2018 Autocton Celler Catalunya Gran Autocton Blanc

    Varieties: 75% Xarel-lo, 25% Malvasia de Sitges
    Terrain: poor clay and some calcareous soils
    Altitude: 300-500m
    Ageing: fermented and aged over 10 months in large 300-400lt French oak casks and in earthenware amphora on its lees with batonnage

    The wine shows pure oaky profile, nutty, earthy, spicy notes in the nose.
    The wine shows medium body in palate, nutty, buttery, almond, medium to high acidity, mineral and medium finish
    Its rather one dimensional but pleasant to drink

    Varieties: very old vines of 80% Xarel-lo, 20% Carel-lo Vermell
    Terrain: very poor clay and some calcareous soils
    Altitude: 300-500m
    Ageing: fermented and aged over 10 months with 20% in large 300-400lt French oak casks and 80% ins stainless steel tanks on its lees with batonnage

    The wine shows bitter almond, citrus, floral and earthy notes, the wine is fresher in palate, light

    Terrain: slate (llicorela)
    Ageing: 12 months in a year old, very lightly toasted French oak barrels from Allier

    The wine shows big bold flavours in the nose, chocolate, prune, green, mineral, raisin and sweet spices
    The wine is big in the palate, with ripe juicy fruit but also some raisins, prunes, oaky frame, chocolate, spicy, alcohol heat, medium finish

    Varieties: 80% Carinyena, 20% Garnatxa, old vines 70-95yo
    Terrain: Slate (llicorela)
    Ageing: 12 months in the cooper’s highest grade, lightly, toasted, fine grained, French oak barrels from Allier

    Thinner in the nose, crunchy red fruit, mineral, a few reductive notes, earthy, oaky, gamey/roasted gamey notes.
    The palate is smooth and delicate, juicy, easy and smooth, fresh nice red fruit, finesse, delicate, medium body, acidity, mineral with long finish

    The wine shows pure black fruit, dense, high intensity, earth, green and mineral
    The wine shows purity in the palate, black fruit, tight tannins, mineral, coffee, oak, black currant, earth, warmth, green tannins, tight and aggressive still, long finish

    Vinification: 30% fermented in new French oak, 70% fermented in stainless steel for 4 months

    Intriguing with nice perfume, citrus, grapefruit, orange and apricot in the nose. The wine is smooth in the palate, with medium acidity, mineral, earthy with long finish

    Varieties: 15% Garnatxa, 85% Carinyena
    Terrain: poor terrain with clay, sand, pebbles and panal (fossilized sand dunes)
    Altitude: 300-700m
    Ageing: 13 months ageing in new French oak barrels and 2-3 years in lightly toasted barrels

    Impressive purity, black and red fruit, high intensity, coffee, chocolate, fruit in liqueur, sweet spices.
    The palate is filled with ripe juicy mostly red fruit, tight tannins, coffee, high acidity, alcohol heat (15%), highly aggressive, long finish

    Varieties: 100% Garnatxa blanca from various areas of DOQ Priorat, 5-30yo vines
    Terrain: slate (llicorela)
    Production: 30% fermented over 3 months in new French oak, 70% stainless steel, then 11 months on lees

    A bit austere, citrus, pear, white peach, yellow apple.
    Smooth in the palate, fruity, mineral, bitter, more aggressive, high acidity, better with food than on its own, medium finish

    The wine shows high intensity earthy, pure ripe fruit red and black fruit, mineral too with some green freshness
    The palate shows smooth tannins, fresh, juicy, medium acidity, mineral with medium finish

    Elegant compared to Brao 2016, pure red fruit, ripe juicy currant, purity, fresh, impressive.
    Pure and smooth in palate, juicy and elegant, delicate, complexity, dusty tannins, nice texture, long finish
    Outstanding quality
