Introduction

Jims birth he cooked Beef Braciola with Polenta and called for wines to match. My contribution was the Wm Harrison and the Tangles

Flight 1 - Warm up wine (1 Note)

Flight 2 - Chardonays (2 Notes)

A Chablis, a wanna be Chablis and a pre-bottling blend of a 2021 Edna Valley. The Edna Valley wine was wonderful and estery, no table determined at this point.

Flight 3 - Six reds to accompany Braciola (6 Notes)

Bagged, and discussed before dinner. For me the Tangles, Wm Harrison were great. The Rinaldi and Brunello needed the food tho show properly. The Wise Acre and Prieure-Lichine far behind

  • 2008 Château Prieuré-Lichine 87 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Embalmed by its tannins, it has the attributes of a great BDX but lacks the soul and balance. Over extracted the edgy tannins made this lose whatever finesse it had.

  • 2010 Wise Acre Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 90 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Big ripe wine, sun dried tomatoes, prunes, and chocolate. Ample alcohol. Napa Valley overkill on ripeness no finesse.

  • 2013 Le Ragnaie Brunello di Montalcino 88 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

Did not like this in the tasting but it blossomed with the food. During the tasting the rustic funk dominated despite being decanted an hour before. As the meal progressed the spice and suppleness dominated and rustic retreated. Wonderful with the sauce. Would not age this more however.

  • 2013 Giuseppe Rinaldi Barbera d'Alba 90 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba

Very ripe but expressive, tons of power, was wonderful with the meal. Balanced and slightly hot, clearly Barbera.

  • 2006 William Harrison Petit Verdot Rutherford 93 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Rutherford

Elegant claret, about as good a food wine as you would ever want. In its prime, don’ t hold much longer. This was my second place wine in the flight and was very close in elegance and depth to the Tangles. Wonderful

  • 2006 Tangles Cabernet Sauvignon 94 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

Super wine for me, the best of the flight. Elegant claret. Easliy the best of the Cabernet based wines in the tasting. Oh I wish Heather was still making this. Probably could have gone another 5 years.
