Flight 1 (9 Notes)

  • 2019 Hans Wirsching Iphöfer Kronsberg Silvaner Alte Reben 88 Points

    Germany, Franken

Still quite young with green apple, lemon, unripe melon and pear. On the palate more lime and grapefruit. High acidity, medium finish. Would love to taste this in 5-8 years

  • 2017 Trimbach Riesling Reserve 89 Points

    France, Alsace

[Blind tasted] Shows a bit of development with lovely petrol, furthermore green apple, honey, candle wax and on the palate more lime and grapefruit. Not (yet?) as complex as I would have hoped. High acidity, medium finish. Guessed a Mosel riesling

  • 2019 Franz Hirtzberger Riesling Smaragd Setzberg 93 Points

    Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau

[Blind tasted] Great riesling, full, generous, but still focused and sharp with great supporting acidity. Medium+ intensity on the nose with yellow apple, pear candy, lemon, blossom, nectarine, pineapple. Medium+ acidity with a long finish. Should be stunning in 5-10 years.

  • 2012 Schloss Vollrads Riesling Spätlese 90 Points

    Germany, Rheingau

[Blind tasted] I thought this was much older than it actually was. Based on the nose (linoleum, marmelade, some petrol, honey) I thought at least 20 years instead of 10.

  • 2019 Rietburg Spätburgunder 86 Points

    Germany, Pfalz

[Blind tasted] Medium intensity with mostly red fruit (cherry, strawberry) and some black fruit (black berry, black currant). Medium+ acidity, medium+ tannins, medium body, medium finish. Apparently EUR 5 a bottle and considering the price an absolute steal

  • 2020 Markus Iro St. Laurent Herrschaftswald 90 Points

    Austria, Burgenland, Neusiedlersee

[Blind tasted] Deep purple. Medium+ intensity on the nose with strong new oak flavors (smokey, ash, cigars, vanilla, ceder), at the moment dominating the fruit (black cherry, kirsch, black plum). Medium+ acidity, medium tannins, long finish. Although not typically my style, I kinda liked this wine. Interesting to see how the wood will integrate over time

  • 2009 Gerhard Markowitsch Blaufränkisch 89 Points

    Austria, Niederösterreich, Carnuntum

[Blind tasted] Medium garnet red. Medium intensity on the nose with kirsch, black cherry, candied black fruit, mocha, tobacco, humus, savoury, stewed fruit. Medium+ acidity, medium tannins, medium finish. Not bad for a 13-year old basic wine, but already over the top. Would not wait
