This bottle came directly from Ruinart in 2008, so was in perfect condition. Maybe slightly lacking in effervescence, but so rich and concentrated with ripe apple, baked apple, dried apricot and slightly sweet spice. Long and layered, this was at least as good when finished two hours after opened vs when popped-and-poured.
Alongside the brilliant 2008. Somm thought this might be corked, and I understand her thinking, but I think it was slightly musty and slightly dirty, but not corked. Good richness and density, but seemingly not pristine, but there was so much good stuff very clear and evident.
Alongside the 2000. Lemon curd and almond butter with some rich apple and floral flourishes. Near Grand Cru density with very good length. Still very bright, this probably has further upside from here.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Sure, this was more advanced than I would consider ideal. And the cork disintegrated during the extraction process. But there was so much here- intense concentration, dried apricot, sweet and savory spice, earth and mushroom, honeycomb, and more. Better when served colder than cellar temp, with the cold bringing out a little more freshness.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru

Alongside the 1995. Lots of black fruit, still slightly reticent but with subtle spice, meat, and power. Not nearly as much fun as the 1995 in the next glass, but possibly better in another decade? 92 points tonight, but further upside from here.

Alongside the 1996. This had the Bonnefond label. Lots of bright black cherry and berry with plenty of rare beef and nicely supported with very brightening structure. Fresh, lively and vibrant with Grand Cru density from start-to-finish. At a great place now. This wine just keeps getting better every time I try another bottle, and sadly I now only have one more left.

Fully mature red fruit with savory spice. Layered and nuanced, with slightly less powerful and density than I recall from a few previous bottles. Very good now.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru

Not quite as "wow" as previous bottles, this was still fun, big and powerful, while also clearly with restraint and wonderful balance. I think the wine on a long flight earlier in the day didn't help.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chevalier-Montrachet Grand Cru
(4/22/2022)
Intensely floral start with aromas and flavors of peach, lemon curd, sweet spice, and candied lemon peel. Very impressive concentration and volume, this is beautiful right now, so while there may likely be further upside, there are also the obvious risks of letting this age further.

Great color and fill, so I was optimistic. Still delicately floral with earth, apple, white pepper, and anise notes. Good weight, better length. In a very good place now.
