Awesome potluck dinner where each attendee brought a bottle or two and some food, hosted by csimm.

  • 2018 Marie Courtin Champagne Presence 93 Points

    France, Champagne

    Aromas of yellow fruits, clean minerals along with clean and beautiful grassy notes, and some dry hay. On the palate were deeper yellow fruits, dry minerals, fruited straw and some watered stones. Particularly enjoyed the texture of this on the palate.

  • 2017 Nicolas Maillart Champagne Grand Cru Jolivettes 93 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

    Aromas of washed peaches, young and clean pears, subtle stone notes. Flavors are very similar to the nose but with a bit of watered down minerality, like stone that has been smoothed and worn down because it has been sitting under a waterfall for decades. This seemed to be holding back on something.. expected a bit more complexity but I have a feeling that some time in the cellar should remedy this. 92-93+

  • 2004 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Clos de la Barre 93 Points

    Great nose of honey notes, deep minerals and deep yellow flowers. Loved the honeyed, yellow fruits on the palate. The age also brought a nice integrated texture. I think with even a bit more age, the weight can lighten a bit too (in a good way).

  • 2017 Aesthete Wines Sauvignon Blanc Barrel Aged Dry Stack Vineyard 91 Points

    Aromas of stone in a pond, clean and stale straws, a bit of claw, a soft tropical fruit note. An undertone of mineral notes, yellow fruits and some grass. I wish this had just a touch more acidity on the palate to help lift and push the flavors a bit, this seemed just a bit flat.

  • 2017 Domaine Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère 96 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru

    Aromas of chalky hay, grass, some clay and a bit of light rubber that made it pretty interesting. Flavors of deep yellow fruits, soft earth and minerals. So crisp and clean with a nice tension that prevents the deep yellow fruits from becoming heavy. Will probably need a handful of years for this to really come together.

  • 2018 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Clos de la Chateniere Blanc Vieilles Vignes 95 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru

    On the nose is an interesting aged leather note that I did not expect, and subtle, cleaner white and deep yellow fruits. Flavors of deep yellow fruits, integrated minerals and some forest soil. There is also a sense of savoriness that really adds interest.

  • 2016 Morlet Family Vineyards Chardonnay Coup de Coeur 96 Points

    Great fruit on the nose of white flowers, clean soft minerals and deep yellow fruits. On the palate the fruits are white and a bit creamy, touch of grass and good minerals. To try these side by side with white Burgs is such an eye opening experience.

  • 2019 Scarecrow Cabernet Sauvignon 97 Points

    Floral aromas (even more so with air time), with spice and deep red fruits, softly spiced oak, clean minerals. Intense red fruits, brooding spice, subtle earth and softly spiced twigs. This needs some air time or more cellar age to be safe, as the intensity grew much more after breathing in the decanter. Curious how this will be in a handful of years. 97+

  • 2006 Bryant Family Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 96 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

    Very floral aromas like red and pink flowers with subtle red fruits. On the palate you get similar red fruits with just a touch of ripeness, a light streak of graphite, earthy and mineral notes. This is starting to hit some savory notes, more on the fermented side. If you like your poison like me with a bit more fruit, you may want to consider drinking soon, not that it's going to be completely gone within 4-5 years but the tertiary notes might start taking over soon.

  • 2019 Sine Qua Non Grenache Distenta I 96 Points

    USA, California, Central Coast

    Soft red and blue fruits on the nose with a fun and flamboyant extravagance to it. Same on the palate, with red ripe fruit, clean oak, a touch of earth and dark minerals. Decant or give this more time in cellar.

    This is gonna make NO sense, but this Grenache and the Andremily I had before seem to have this touch of neon glow to it - think Tron and/or Blade Runner. Maybe it's just me.

  • 2015 Predecessor Cabernet Sauvignon Lorraine Red Lake Vineyard 95 Points

    The nose is very floral with aromas of red roses, buoyant deep red fruits with a touch of softness. On the palate was bright red fruits, a sheen of shiny minerals and some deep earth. Great acidity to this but might need some time to integrate and develop more, it was almost crossing the line of being too bright.

    Aromas of dark red fruits, deep earth and dark graphite. Flavors matches the nose completely but shows graceful power. I would have preferred to have a bit more air time with this. More cellar time would greatly help as well.

  • 2018 VHR Cabernet Sauvignon Extended Barrel Age Vine Hill Ranch 98 Points

    Clean oak on the nose, with dark red fruits and big florals. On the palate was much more intense red fruits, spicy earth, soft oak with some spice and black minerals. So this is what an additional year of barrel age does. Definite advantage over the regular '18 with no extended age. 97-98

    Dark aromas of deep red fruit with a bit of richness. The flavors are much more accessible now with darker red fruits, some graphite and a touch of deep earth. Much more accessible now but could see some good integrated with cellar age as well.

  • 2019 Arrow & Branch Cabernet Sauvignon Vine Hill Ranch 98 Points

    Sexy aromas of deep red fruits, earth and dark red flowers. So seductive on the nose. On the palate, the intensity rides up a bit with riper and darker fruit. An undercurrent of earth lays just below the dark fruit.

  • 2012 Pride Mountain Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 95 Points

    USA, California, North Coast, Napa / Sonoma

    Aromas of intense red fruits and florals, a bit of heat and soft earth. Flavors of rich red fruits, rich deep earth and a stern spice that is separate from a softly spiced oak. First time with this wine and it was a good experience! Great intensity on both the nose and palate but along with that intensity came a bit of heat and strong spice. I think all of that can be remedied with 3-6 years of cellar time.

  • 1998 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée 92 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    Aromas of a great funk that is very interesting, and lots of it, used leather and muddled fruit underneath (in a good way). Flavors of ripe red and blue fruits like some fresh and also aged plums, with the same funk from the nose that keeps it interesting. This is probably one of those bottles where you need to pick how you like your poison and plan accordingly on when to consume.

  • 2001 Château Rieussec 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

    Lovely aromas of honey, dried hay, dried stone and minerals, and something like burnt incense. Amazing flavors of honeyed fruits, yellow fruits like a perfect, almost ripe apricot (where it's not too soft yet), and a subtle honey wax. There was just enough acidity left to keep this swift on the palate. Went very well with some pineapple. Makes me want to try more aged Sauternes.

    The notes are pretty similar to the last time I had it, not much difference. I wish I could've spent a bit more time with this, along with a bunch of others in the lineup. Love this deep pitch of dark blue fruited notes, with a seamless texture on the palate. What a treat to taste again.

  • NV Jerome Blin Champagne Cuvée Apogée Extra Brut 93 Points

    Aromas of fruited straw, clean white fruits that cover a bit of brown skinned fruits, and clean minerals. Flavors of ripe yellow fruits with a minerality that lifts the palate very much. There's also a pleasant bitterness to the minerality that keeps it very interesting. Surprisingly nice energy to this.

An amazing evening meeting new people, eating good food and drinking amazing wine.

Special shout outs to csimm for planning and hosting, and his kindness and generosity in making sure no one leaves thirsty. Feel pretty lucky and honored to even be a part of this evening. Definitely a night to remember!
