Introduction

Three flights with one wine in each flight....this tasting is designed to focus on the wine, not compare it to others in a tasting! A fun lineup that was squarely in my wheelhouse (probably more so than others!)

Flight 1 - Champagne (1 Note)

  • NV Laurent-Perrier Champagne Cuvée Rosé Brut 91 Points

    France, Champagne

Nice Rose Champagne....red fruit, yeast and some seashell...nice balance between acid and fruit. A very serviceable Champagne, and nice Rose! 90-91 points with no problem! Had this with a caprese salad...went OK....then with a watermelon salad (watermelon, onion and a blue cheese or Gorgonzola), and it went much better with that!

Flight 2 - Starter White (1 Note)

  • 2013 Kistler Chardonnay Cuvée Cathleen Kistler Vineyard 94 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Valley

In a great drinking window...slightly oxidized, giving it some caramel notes, but nice golden fruit and stone fruit, coupled with bees wax and some chalky minerality. Finish showed some toasty oak/butterscotch and a slight honeyed flavor. A great wine that should likely be drunk now (maybe a year past its apex, but still peaking). Easily 94+ for my palate! Paired well with corn on the cob!

Flight 3 - Featured Red! (1 Note)

  • 2012 Beta Cabernet Sauvignon Montecillo Vineyard 94 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Moon Mountain District

Wow! The nose on this wine is fantastic! It is characterized by dark fruit and purple flowers and is quite intoxicating! The palate comes close to reaching the lofty heights of the fruit as the pretty fruit ahows up in spades. The palate shows plenty of dark fruit, mostly cassis and blackberry, with notes of chocolate and hints of tree bark and earth. Although the tertiary flavors will require more time, it is the purity of fruit that takes center stage right now. For those who enjoy the purity of fruit, this wine is in awesome place....smooth tannins, dense fruit and a velvety mouthfeel...a trifecta in my book! May get better, but damn good right now! 94+ for my palate! Paired well with grilled sirloin!

Great wines, great friends, great food, and, of course, a great time! (How could it not be with that combo!?!?)

Cheers and happy drinking!
