Introduction

AP organised a trip to test out a new venue. Hugely enjoyable evening in an airy room that was buzzy but not loud, and the food was wine friendly and well executed.

Flight 1 - Pea and Scallop Soup Canapé and Mackerel Two ways (2 Notes)

Flight 2 - Duck (2 Notes)

Flight 3 - Generous portion of cheese (2 Notes)

  • 2009 Domaine Robert Chevillon Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Perrières

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru

    (10/12/2022)

On the nose - a bit of funk, some gaminess. This would be a great wine to spend an evening with but was a bit disjointed in the company. After finishing the other reds went back to this and found it much more enjoyable - evidently 09 was a low acid year which led to a lovely, somewhat harmonious wine, but it didn't benefit from being sat beside the others.

  • 2000 Faiveley Corton-Clos des Cortons Faiveley

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

    (10/12/2022)

Compared to the 99 - which will be a wine for the grandchildren - this was surprisingly ready to drink. A certain delicacy and poise, lighter on its feet than expected. A hint of cherry coke but all in balance - jolly nice stuff.

Flight 4 - Dessert Wine (1 Note)

  • 2001 Château Lafaurie-Peyraguey

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

    (10/12/2022)

Served from half. Jolly nice stuff - fully mature but no marmalade to it, nor was it overly sweet - I struggle to write meaningful dessert wine notes but...this was a great end to a great meal.
