Introduction

Little bracket of Belgrave, smaller bracket of Brane Cantenac...all wines Coravin'ed about half an hour before tasting.

Flight 1 - Belgrave (5 Notes)

2000 probably on the drink up list, 2005 looking just right, 2010, 2015 & 2016 need a bit more time...

  • 2000 Château Belgrave

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc

From Coravin. Aromas of leather, slightly sour blackcurrant, a little sweet spice, touches of forest floor and mushroom, bramble, earth, cedar in support. Sourly juicy with muted blackcurrant and bramble backed by sweet spice, slight non-intrusive alcohol warmth, softly textured tannins have a little grainy note, showing better than last but still in the drink up space.

  • 2005 Château Belgrave

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc

From Coravin. Blackcurrant, cream, sweet spice, very slight leathery notes, a little plum, bold rather than fresh nose; a sense of concentration if you will, a little polished oak and slight dried fruit notes. Juicy, savoury, blackcurrant, tight slightly drying and coarsely textured tannins, a little non-intrusive alcohol warmth, sweet spice, long, balanced. Nice.

  • 2010 Château Belgrave

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc

From Coravin. Brambles, a little black cherry, plums, sweet spice, blackcurrant, polished oak...still quite a primary nose. Juicy tending to medium plus intensity acidity, quite savoury dark fruits on the palate, slightly coarsely textured tannins, fruit persists with non-intrusive alcohol warmth, a little minty underpin, long but time required. Okay.

  • 2015 Château Belgrave

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc

From Coravin. Cream, slightly buttery notes, sweet spice, black hued fruits are a little non-delineated, slight toas, a little raisined note joins a touch of jubey fruit lozenge with time. Juicy, savoury, black hued fruit, a little yeast extract, slightly drying, chalky tannins, fruit persists long, nice...could drink now but only with a very very long decant

Flight 2 - Brane Cantenac (2 Notes)

Just a couple. The 1984 was okay-ish, the 2000 was rather splendid...

From Coravin. Medium minus intensity aromas of jubey black fruits, sweet spice, brambles, blackcurrant, a slightly savoury underpin…pretty nose. • 1984 Château Brane-Cantenac

From Coravin. Leather, toast, earth, red over black berry fruit, sweet spice, a herbaceous underpin, slight Autumnal notes and a touch of blood/iron. Medium plus intensity acidity, meaty, savoury, tomato and tomato leaf, talc textured tannins, a little sweet fruit underpin, a touch out of whack. Hmm.

Closing

Interesting, the Belgrave's were nice and a reflection of their quality level...The Baron de Brane was very good.
