From magnum - our Christmas morning wine. Carefully opened following the loss of several glasses worth last time. Jolly nice - good acidity, some roundness in the mouth, a sherbet character, and perhaps a little strawberry. Definitely a solid start to things.
Cork came out weirdly easily. This feels a little awkward compared to previous bottles - maybe a little *too* waxy, too sherried? Perfectly drinkable but I have a sense it has lost its freshness. Demoted from lunch duties but serves admirably later on to help with board games and crisps.
A bit of a game time decision. Hadn’t planned to go there but just felt drawn. Good decision - lovely nose, real elegance and length to it. Seemed more complete than the bottle we drank recently at the RZ jadodfest - although I can’t say how much this bottle differed, and how much one just has a different sense when drinking it on its own, and going through several glasses. Perfect Christmas dinner wine.
Had been opened and sampled the previous night. Think this was a good move. Vibrant fruit - almost plush in the mouth. That kind of bell pepper character and a somewhat herbal / menthol element, that I think comes from the cab franc. There’s a core to it - tannin and acid - I think that with some age this could become really good, but even now - excellent vfm and just the thing to enjoy with the Ghosts Christmas special and being terrified on the Oculus Quest.
