    Pop and pour, spices and jasmine immediately come bursting to the fore. With time, the wine fleshes out in glass showing more of that Asian spice, sesame, white flowers, jasmine and pear. While it was layered and had some depth, this isn’t one of those wines that creates a standstill moment, it definitely brings about a smile or two.

    Always a delight to have older white burgundies that have survived pre-mox and are hitting it so hard out of the park. If I had not brought this, I would have never guessed it to be a 93.

    In glass this had an almost clear appearance with slight tinges of cream. From the onset there was slightly lean with jasmine, white flowers and green apples. Nice amount of minerality, precision and crisp acidity led me to Puligny 2019. I need to pick up more of these.

    One of those wines that make you smile. Bewitching bouquet of ripe cherries, red flowers and raspberries that exuded such elegance and regal. On the palate, bits of orange peel, violets and ripe juicy cherries. As it fleshed out in glass, so did layers of ripe red fruit and tinge of porcini bundled with depth and power. Very complete at this time and drinking incredibly well.

  • 2005 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Combe aux Moines Vieille Vigne 94 Points

    Same bewitching bouquet as the 2002 CAM that was full of ripe cherries, red flowers and red raspberries. I picked up some cola notes along with more red currants. This was slightly tighter than the 2002 CAM but there was a distinct sense that this would be a beast in maybe about 5 years time. This bottle was for me, telling of a great ripe vintage but perhaps just needed a bit more time to unfurl. Lovely depth, power and structure that had also screamed elegance through and through.

    Incredibly striking and haunting bouquet. If the bouquet had not revealed that this was top end Gevrey premier cru or even a grand cru, the palate sure did. Violets, red flowers, cherries and savoury meaty streaks did it for me with power and depth. My first thoughts brought me to the 2002 Louis Jadot CSJ I had recently in terms of style but pedigree wise, this was easily a few levels up. My WOTN.

    It was revealed that there was a village ringer and I was dead sure this was it. Icing sugar and sweet cherries lead me to guess that it was youngish plus I thought it was a little simplistic, lean and approachable.

    Unsure if this was bottle variation at play here or perhaps this just needed time.

    First thoughts, this has the legs to go the distance man. Bouquet a little ferrous-like with some rust and iron showing up. While showing quite ripe but tight, there was also minerality and elegance amidst the dark and slightly broody waves. In my opinion, made for the long run. Drinking nicely now and will be drinking amazing in 10 years if all goes well.

    Cool cherry with some cola notes, roses and meat stuffing. Quite approachable now really and was so much prettier than the 2013 Goulots that I felt that this could not be the village ringer. While approachable and a tad simplistic, this is a wine I’d drink anytime!

    Memory a bit hazy for this one. Cool cherry, roses and some slight asian spices. It felt like it came from a slightly warmer year and was drinking very well now.

    Intoxicating and opulent – first two words that came to my mind when the bouquet first hit and on first taste. Balance, depth, complexity and opulent, this pretty has everything you want in a glass. Lush dark red cherries, red currents with some sage. Similar to the 2005 CAM, this bottle has the legs for a long runway. I really liked this tonight and I know I will like this even more with some of that tertiary notes start kicking in.

    Good power and elegance but a tad too young and primary for my preference. While left to bottle breathe over approx. 2 hours at this stage, this was still a little too tight and stubborn to really start showing. To be clear I think it was good but could be way better with a bit more time to unfurl.

    On the bouquet I got some mushroom powder and some Chinese medicinal spices together with some lush red fruit. Thought this was from a warm year though and I guessed 2016 so was pleasantly surprised when it was revealed to be at 2014.
