  • 2006 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Tessons Clos de Mon Plaisir 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

    Capital R

First wine of the first flight of two whites. Visually, this was a stark difference in color between the 2002 Ramonet Vergers. Almost yellow in glass, this showed great tension and balance with some fine flint and matchstick hanging there. Palate was showing ripe with plum, apricots, mandarin peel, cream and lemongrass. Good balance between elegance and power, great tension and was drinking pretty amazingly!

  • 2002 Domaine Ramonet Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Vergers 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru

This was rather surprising. In glass this was dark yellow but did not show signs that it was dead. Chrysanthemum, kaffir lime, honeycomb, caramel and toasted hazelnuts dominate both the bouquet and palate. Finish was lovely to boot. Good structure with high toned acid and tension. I placed this as a 1999 Ramonet Chassagne but didn't get round to guessing plot.

  • 2004 François Raveneau Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

    Capital R

This came alongside the 2016 Ramonet BBM in the same flight. Visually, the two bottles literally looked to be the same age and with the first nose, Reticent on the opening and pretty linear so after a couple of sips, I put it aside to let it open up and that proved the right decision. After about an hour, it opened up to layers of green lime, jasmine, grapefruit and pomelo. Packed with minerality with a good sense of density and richness.

I stuck to my guns this time round and called 2015 Ramonet while being in utter belief that this could never be a Roulot. I have never tried Raveneau before but this wasnt showing that typical Chablis character. Imagine my disbelief that this was a 2004 Raveneau! I guess Chablis is Chablis and Raveneau is Raveneau!

  • 2016 Jean-Claude Ramonet Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

    Capital R

Right off the onset, this was powerful and weighty but not on the cusp of cloying. Felt that this too was still a little reticent so I left it aside to open. After about an hour, layers of white flowers, white peaches, stone fruit, apples, cream soda and peppermint emerged with a sort of buttery apple juice showing a little more persistent on the finish. Lovely expression and showing off that balance between minerality and density, elegance and power. While truly a baby now, this is definitely an absolute beast in the making. Most folks guessed 2015/2016 Ramonet BBM.

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

2006 Ramonet BBM in perfect shape and drinking stupendously. Bouquet showed a bit more development than previous flight with lilies, jasmine, peppermint, ripe yellow fruit and cream. Palate shows some menthol/mint, yellow japanese peaches and orange/lemon oil with depth and steely minerality. Damm, this was pretty smoking!

  • 2012 Domaine Ramonet Bâtard-Montrachet 98 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru

    Capital R

Completely entrancing with a bouquet full of opulence and power, this was screaming Batard or Montrachet. With bated breath, the first sips brought about an explosion of flavours - lush fruit, lemon curd, lilies, crushed stone, viscous apricot juice, lemon oil and tears of heaven. Great structure here with depth of fruit, power, acidity and a long finish. Stupendous now and with some age this will be perfect.

  • 2009 Michel Bonnefond Ruchottes-Chambertin 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru

    Capital R

Decanted 3 hours prior. Very rustic and classic style. Bouquet was pretty inviting - perfumed with roses, florals and lifted with high toned red fruit. Ripe red fruit on the palate with earth, mushrooms, meat and spices. Fantastic depth and acidity - would probably wait a few more years to open my next. Should develop a bit more complexity and be a little more fleshed out.

  • 2008 Domaine Joseph Roty Charmes-Chambertin Très Vieilles Vignes 94 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru

    Capital R

Decanted 3 hours prior. This felt more ready and expressive compared to the MB RC. Quite rustic bouquet with bright red fruit, pepper, sage and toasted cedar. Clean and pure fruit, this was elegant and nicer on the palate than on the bouquet with dark cherries, light cocoa, rosewater and touch of plums. Acidity was noticeable and finish was lengthy. Again, I would give this a few more years of sleep.

  • 2016 Benjamin Roblot Bonnes Mares 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Bonnes Mares Grand Cru

Brought by a friend who carried this back from Burgundy. A producer that just started producing wines since 2016 and this was his first vintage. I understand that historically, his grandfather used to own plots but passed away in 1980 and his kids then sold grapes to Patrice Rion and Herve Roumier until 2016.

This was lovely and drinking beautifully. High toned red fruit with good acidity and sorta tampered down by some meatiness - resulting in a wine that appears a little straightforward but takes you by surprise after a few moments. A lovely one and I will look out for more!
