Introduction
No appt necessary. Walked-in. Knowledgeable, pleasant staff. Grounds are nothing to write home about, but the tasting room was nice. I wish that I had taken between notes, but really was most interested in tasting the Landslide CS, unfortunately it was not available.

Recommend making a quick stop for some well priced wines.
2003 Simi Sauvignon Blanc

[$14] NZ style. citrus and apricot; some minerality.

2000 Simi Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley

[$22] berries and smoke on the nose; round; ripe fruit, raspberrry, blueberry, and some black cherry. Interesting stuff, but my style. Drinking now.

2001 Simi Shiraz Landslide Vineyard

[$18] Red and black fruit; cherry and chocolate. First offering of this wine. Incidentally, though called Shiraz was grown in Cali. RMP hated it at $40; I liked it at $18, and purchased a bottle.
(This was one of the better offerings of Syrah that I tasted. It seemed on this trip that every winery was pushing Syrah. And though in the past I enjoyed this grape, I have become less interested. Most are flabby, fruity wines with no structure. In fact I only purchased a total of 3 bottles out of 4 cases of wine. When discussing the low quality of many recent vintage Northern California Syrahs, another winery predicted that Syrah will becoming the Merlot of this decade.)

2002 Simi Merlot Alexander Valley

[$22] Bright cherry, plum, and blackberry on the nose. Red berry on the palate; Not bad though didn't purchase any.

2002 Simi Cabernet Sauvignon Alexander Valley

[$25] Cassis, blackberry, and dried herbs; nice wine but not as good as the '01 which is still available; and reagardless at a few bucks more, I am holding out for the Landside.
