Introduction

A small tasting of a few Robert Craig wines hosted by Cuvée Collective.

Flight 1 (3 Notes)

  • 2021 Robert Craig Chardonnay Gap's Crown Vineyard 91 Points

USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast

Aromas of pineapple with oak, ripe brown pears, hay and gentle bitter minerals.

Lots of strong, initial acidity. The acidity overwhelmed the other flavors of subtle minerals, dry hay and earth. Subtle white and yellow fruit, with pith, seeds, and all.

Good on pop and pour, lost a lot of vibrancy and fell almost flat after being opened for a while.

  • 2019 Robert Craig Cabernet Sauvignon Affinity 90 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley

The nose had dark, ripe red fruits with a core of black fruits, gentle earth and some chocolate appear with some time.

Flavors of similar red fruits from the nose, good juiciness and freshness, gentle steeped tea and minerals, graphite and soft bitter earth.

Like the Chardonnay, surprising freshness but loses its health after being opened for a while.

  • 2019 Robert Craig Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain 93 Points

USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain

Aromatic dark red and black currants and earth, violets and dry, crushed stone.

On the palate was similar currants from the nose, dark tree bark, powdered graphite with deep earth, and bitter river minerals.

There's a nice freshness on the palate. This shows youthful characters and should show better with time.
