Four of us had a fantastic dinner last night. A pair of newcomers (so to speak) in Corton Charlemagne and some California Dreamin'. Nights like this are increasingly rare and always a treat.
This beautiful wine stood out initially and for me remained red WOTN. Absolute class in the glass and it simply had no flaws. From the Singleton Cellar.
Very good, although initially less elegant then the 1951 served alongside. Over the evening this improved continually and it attempted to challenge its sibling's performance. Also from the Singleton Cellar.
This opened slowly, and during dinner lovely sweet brown sugar notes emerged. It improved continuously all evening and was a lovely bottle. From the Graham Lyons auction.
Initially a touch of astringency. Like its sibling (the 55), it improved over the three hour dinner and and beautiful notes of caramel and brown sugar emerged.
1971 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon Oenothèque
France, Champagne
The distilled essence of aged champagne. Very enjoyable, but I miss the verve this vintage of Oeno showed not too many years ago.
