I had a lovely evening with my friend Atsushi eating supper and then visiting a couple of wine bars to have a drink...
Posh French restaurant specialising in truffles, foie gras and exceedingly rich sauces...wonderful...
Super posh wine bar with exceptional wine list (and mark-ups) and a toilet concealed behind a door disguised as a glasses cabinet...
A little basement wine bar with about 18 covers specialising in Italian wine...lovely
What a wonderful night of decadent indulgence...
2015 Bouchard Père et Fils Chambolle-Musigny
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
From half bottle. Softly fruited on the nose showing black over red berry and a little spice. Juicy, softly fruited on the palate as well with the merest tannic whisper. Elegant, simple and lovely and, for the most part, a better food match than those chosen by the restaurant in my humble opinion

2020 Domaine Chanson Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Hauts Marconnets Blanc
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
Lemon backed by a little butter and cream. medium plus intensity acidity, flavours as per the nose, a little texture and sweet spice. Nice but not a good match to the food.

2019 Domaine Jones Fitou Vieilles Vignes
France, Languedoc Roussillon, Languedoc, Fitou
Baked earth, liquorice, blackberry, dried herbs, a little plum and strawberry in support, the blackberry fruit proves more jubey and jammy with time in the glass. Quite berried fruit on the palate with a little savoury underpin, those slight garrigue notes, talc textured tannins, those slight garrigue notes, talc textured tannins, slight alcohol warmth on the finish. Big, nice - balanced.

2018 Virginie de Valandraud Blanc
France, Bordeaux
Gooseberry, a little green apple, touch of sweet spice. Medium plus intensity acidity, bone dry, textured burr, muted fruit. Simple, pleasant. Good match to the food but not the sauce.

2012 Château d'Aiguilhe
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Castillon Côtes de Bordeaux
Plums over fresh blackcurrant, sweet spice and, with time ,an almost liquorice note. Juicy, fleshy, dark hued fruits, breadth and a slight silky tannic burr. Long, lovely (2012 punching above its weight again) and a great match to the beef and foie gras.
