The phenomenal QPR wine Colosi Rosso 2005 was also poured but I just recently wrote a TN on it.

  • 2006 Layer Cake Primitivo

    Italy, Puglia, Puglia IGT

This stood out in the Italian tasting, mainly b/c it didn't taste Italian. Super fruit forward, with toasty oak intruding on the palate. To me, it was an unbalanced mess, but this is a style that often works... NR

  • 2005 Zenato Ripassa 88 Points

Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Ripasso della Valpolicella Superiore

10/28/08: Re-tasted, and liked it much more this time. Nice juicy finish handles the richness of the palate. This is tasty. 89-90
5/23/08: The most popular wine of the tasting as far as QPR is concerned. Big full mouthfeel. Low acidity. Hints of sweetness on the finish. Good, although I wasn't as fond of it as others. 86-87

  • 2004 Ruffino Chianti Classico Riserva Ducale 84 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG

Baking spices, light-medium bodied, with sour cherries on the palate. Typical chianti, and typically medicore.

  • 2002 Poliziano Vino Nobile di Montepulciano 87 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Montepulciano, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano

Holding together nicely. Nice lush texture, full of cherry fruit. A solid bottle of wine, and an overachiever in the '02 vintage.

  • 2001 Antonio Sanguineti Brunello di Montalcino 94 Points

Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

Tried in the afternoon when I double decanted this wine, and then later in the night when we poured it. Absolutely stunning nose. Chocolate and cherries are dominant. Sweet rich fruit fills the palate. Med+ tannins gives this large wine the structure it needs to stand up the the bursting palate. The structure was a little tighter before decanting, which I think I preferred. At night the finish was not as wonderous as the rest of the experience. But an amazing wine, at half the price of most BDM's. Huge reccomend. 2PM-95, 8PM-93

  • 2004 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco

Decanted this wine, but was not able to try it later on. Upon opening, a strong dried mushroom aroma dominated the nose. This was expectadly, very tight, but did seem to have a nice core of fruit. Need to retry another time. But high 80's when I tried it.

  • 2003 Tre Donne Barolo 92 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Decanted. Upon opening, the wall of tannins made it difficult to get much from this wine. However, at night, this opened up quite nicely. Still quite tanninc, but much more accesible. Gorgeous nose, with lovely rosey, cherry fruit. This is a nice wine that has the structure to last. 92+

  • 2007 Saracco Moscato d'Asti 85 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Moscato d'Asti

The acidityin this wine is wonderful, keeping it from being cloying. Amazingly fresh, tasty moscato, and one of the few that I've had that I can say I've enjoyed.
