An opportunity to try a few Italian wines at the lower end of the budgetary space.
A few dogs but also a few rather pleasant wines here as well. I enjoyed the sparkling, Correggia roero nebbiolo, querciabella Mongrana and la dama Vini valpolicella classico
NV Bellenda Prosecco di Conegliano-Valdobbiadene 'Cosi e' Col Fondo
Italy, Veneto, Prosecco di Conegliano-Valdobbiadene
Citrus, mineral, a little saline tang…all of which translates to the palate, more frizzante than sparkling, textured grip is reinforced by the bubbles, simple, S'okay.

2019 La Dama Molinara Sui Lieviti Bollicella
Italy, Veneto, Veronese IGT
Medium minus intensity aromas, a little funky, muted red fruit. The red fruit slightly more prevalent on the palate, plenty of grippy textured rasp against the tongue, long but fairly anonymous with a slightly off note on the finish. Nah.

2021 Matteo Correggia Roero Arneis
Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Roero
Slightly green underpin, a little unripe peach, earthy minerality, fruit grows with time and hand warmth, a little savoury underpin. Juicy, tangy, less green on the palate, silky grip, slight non-intrusive alcohol warmth on the finish. Hmm.

2021 Petilia Greco di Tufo
Italy, Campania, Greco di Tufo DOCG
Medium minus intensity aromas show a smidge of stone fruit, touch of salinity; almost a green olive note. Super tangy and grippy, savoury, that saline note translates to the palate. All about structure. Needs food.

2021 Guido Porro Dolcetto d'Alba
Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Dolcetto d'Alba
All ripe cherry tending to slightly jammy plum notes. A little sweet spice in support. Juicy tends to medium plus acidity that ripe fruit has a little savoury underpin and there is a softly textured burr and a bit too much alcohol warmth on the finish. Not for me.

2020 Gianfranco Alessandria Barbera d'Alba
Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba
Oaky caramel and sweet spice over muted red cherry. Lashings of oak and alcohol on the palate, woody tannins, muted fruit, Not very nice.

2020 Mauro Veglio Langhe Nebbiolo Angelo
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
A little sweet spice and caramel joins black plummy fruit, fruit tea and a little dried herb note. Despite the promising nose this proves quite disappointing on the palate, fairly dilute. Meh.

2021 La Dama Valpolicella Classico
Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Valpolicella Classico
Pretty red berry and cherry fruit, super fresh, very slight tomato leaf note. In the mouth it's equally juicy, fresh, same fruit profile with a tiny savoury note and a soft tannic burr. Long, balanced, rather nice.
