Great event, which started with a tasting of St Emilion 2000.
I personally liked the 2002 for its elegance and potential and the 1993 for its roundness, complexity and finesse. Fantastic wines
Both of them were fantastic wines but from completely different styles, a truly memorable experience.
My top three wines at the tasting were Les Gravieres, Cheval Blanc and Pavie. However, I had a tough time with D'Aiguile since I think it also deserved to be in the top but I chose Les Gravieres at the end. There has been some discussion on the Pavie and whether it was really closed or not. I thought it wasn't and showed remarkable finesse.
In any case, a great tasting, great food and great company
2000 Château Figeac
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
Shows some small herbal notes in the nose as well as some incense and cherry. In the mouth however it is slighly thin and herby with a somewhat mineral, earthy finish with ta hint of spice. I thought it was quite closed at the moment. I noted it 2.5 out of 5

2000 Château Pavie
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
Deep color, thick and a good level of glycerin. In the nose it is expressive with notes of cassis, red fruit and cherry liequer. A lot of finesse. In the mouth it has a velvety attack with an ample mid palate and good structure and acidity I got clean red fruit, and quite a bit of mineral. Long and complex this was one of my favorites of the tasting. I rated it 4.5 out of 5

2000 Château Angélus
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
Nice complexity on the nose with aromas of violet, cassis and cedarwood as well as ripe cherries. In the mouth it has a powerful attack and mid palatewith a good level of tannins and a long finish on notes of sandalwood, chocolate and earth. Great potential but needs time for better wood tannin integration. I rated it 4 out of 5

2000 Château Cheval Blanc
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
Youthful color and quite some viscosity with colored "legs" this wine was just great. On the nose, red fruit, licorice and coffee but in the mouth it opened up with a very refined attack, a good structured mid palate and a long finish with hints of torrefaction. Two words about this wine balance and finesse. Bravo. 4.5 out of 5

1996 Pahlmeyer Merlot
USA, California, Napa Valley
some evolution in the rim and a nose featuring some red fruit and cherry jam. The nose is clearly different from the former wines. In the mouth it has a good attack but lacks a bit of roundness but has good structure and length. It was a bit too warm to show all its potential
