Introduction

New producer to me. Small producer.

Flight 1 - 3x3 (6 Notes)

Started off with the white burgs first, then the reds. I preferred the whites over the reds.

  • 2021 Domaine Bachelet-Monnot Bourgogne Côte d'Or Blanc 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Côte d'Or

The scent of brown, thick straw bales, that was recently damp but dried out, with notes of warmed baked cookies, and bruised pear flesh.

Nice acidity on the palate, followed by fresh pears, fresh loquat with its stem still attached, aged neutral wood, and shiny minerals. Finishes with a bit of heat.

Love the rustic nose and refreshing lift on the palate.

  • 2021 Domaine Bachelet-Monnot Chassagne-Montrachet 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet

Ripe, slightly prickly, deep stone fruits on the nose.

A bit more tropical on the palate compared to the nose, leaning into deep ripe pineapples. Gently bitter minerals on the finish.

Good weight while also having good acidity to it. While the flavors are deep and somewhat strong, the acidity is well integrated, providing a nice lift to the weight.

  • 2021 Domaine Bachelet-Monnot Puligny-Montrachet 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet

Aromas of honeyed peaches, and earth with tall grass. This grass is somewhat dried like straw. The aromas here have a deeper drive of fresh air but with the must from its surroundings, like standing in a shadow on field, cast from a nearby hill that’s helps provide a sense of dampness.

Golden apples with bitter yet crisp minerals on the palate. Rustic earth with dry and slender straw flavors add intrigue.

Pleasant and quite good, preferred this over the Chassagne-Montrachet. The fruit is more in the background in this one. Love the rustic profile in this one.

  • 2021 Domaine Bachelet-Monnot Bourgogne 90 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne

Rustic and earthy funk on the nose, with small red berries (if blueberries had red flesh and a bit of the red fleshed characteristics).

Silvery and almost metallic minerals on the palate. Juicy cranberries but more on the drier spectrum. Earth on the finish with a firm but soft bitterness. A bit of heat on the finish on the finish as well.

Damn.. heat on a lighter body wine really flairs on the finish.

  • 2021 Domaine Bachelet-Monnot Maranges 1er Cru Clos de la Boutière 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Maranges 1er Cru

A cleaner, more pure aroma of dark red berries and fruit. Clean enough that it may come off as flowers as well. Very subtle earth notes. The fruits on the nose here really show off, flows like a stream of dark juice.

Palate of black berries with dark red fruits, all on the drier spectrum without losing appeal. Bitter tree bark, dried earth and soft minerals on the finish.

  • 2021 Domaine Bachelet-Monnot Maranges 1er Cru La Fussière 91 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Maranges 1er Cru

A nice forest funk with wet stones on the nose, like literally hiking through a forest right after it rained. Dark red and purple plums but with a floral lift that keeps it from being plain.

Flavors of young and fresh red plums with its slightly tart and bitter skins still intact, shiny minerals and a drying oak note on the finish. Preferred the Boutière over this one.

Flight 2 - Surprise blind bottle (1 Note)

Shout outs to Ralph for bringing out a bottle from his own cellar to bring some fun to the crowd on a Friday evening.

Never second guess yourself, go with your gut.

  • 2011 Faiveley Beaune 1er Cru Clos de l'Ecu

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

    [Blind tasting]

Nose of mushrooms growing on a forest floor, shaved tree bark and dried black truffle shavings (the less intense ones). A lithe and nimble cranberry note, as if you juiced dried cranberries, it’s not much fruit flavor but it's still there, trying to hang on.

Similar juiced, dried cranberries with a hint of shaved dried orange peel on the palate. Bright clean minerals on the finish with some light and dried oak.

    My guesses:
Vintage - 2006 (initially guessed 2010 but what I thought was truffle made me guess an older year)
    Varietal - Pinot Noir
Producer - not a damn clue

Closing

Apparently global warming has been benefiting some of the vineyard regions where it wasn't doing as well before.

Fun and educational tasting. Wines aren't bad neither.
