  • 2008 Launois Pere et Fils Champagne Grand Cru Special Club Blanc de Blancs 90 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

Solid showing of this bottle; shows a hint of maturity but good chalkiness and plenty of 2008 acidity. Chewy minerality. For my palate, in a really good spot for drinking now.

  • 2016 Domaine Gramenon Côtes du Rhône Sierra du Sud 88 Points

France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône

Very easy-going syrah. A hair light on the palate, but with lots of the bright 2016 red syrah fruit. Not too structured and a bit of a glou-glou style without the natty elements.

  • 2020 Tenuta di Carleone Il Guercio 88 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

I don't think I found as much sangiovese character in this as last time. The whole cluster though is unmistakable and prominent. Maybe a bit more stylized than I want my wine to be, but I do understand the appeal of what this is.

  • 2020 Tenuta di Carleone Il Randagio 90 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

I think I may have liked this a little more than the hyper-stylized Il Guercio. The herbal tones work very nicely with the cabernet, and the merlot gives this the plush fruitiness you would want in something like this. A modest hint of pyrazines that serve more to accentuate rather than overwhelm.

  • 2011 Domaine des Roches Neuves Saumur-Champigny Franc de Pied 90 Points

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Saumur-Champigny

Still drinks quite young, and I think another half decade wouldn't do much harm to this wine. Very lovely perfumed aromatics, with mature pyrazine notes that don't overwhelm. The fruit feels well-balanced as well. Nice depth that feels almost Bordelais.

  • 2019 Emrich-Schönleber Monzinger Frühlingsplätzchen Riesling Spätlese 93 Points

    Germany, Nahe

Super chewy minerality. Fresh, light, and concentrated. Truly classic riesling, with outstanding balance. Very young and easy to drink now, but this is almost certainly a wine destined for greatness.

  • 2019 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Schlossberg Riesling Spätlese 93 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

The 2019 vintage in Germany really kicks it up another notch. This is outstanding for the level; a bit more sponti and a little more delicate and ethereal than the Schönleber Frühlingsplätzchen alongside, but just the same balance and intensity of acidity, mineral, and fruit. A big fan here.

  • 2015 Domaine Jacques Carillon Chassagne-Montrachet 90 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet

Perhaps this was a little too warm, as it had lost a bit of the cut from the last time I had this wine. Nonetheless, I maintain that Carillon (there's only one, despite whatever CellarTracker says) is one of the best white wine producers in Burgundy. Rounded and relatively large-scaled, perhaps as expected for the vintage, but nevertheless still very much in balance with good mineral extract and complexity, especially at the villages level.
