Deeply extracted; blueberry, smoke, brambly, wild, plummy, alcohol evident, chocolate, big, a bit boozy and clumsy, New World for sure, cedar, baking spice, liqueured, a bit more mellow but big wine; Aussie Shiraz?
USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
Deep dark core with cloudy purple rim; chocolate, big, plush, mocha, round, floral, vanilla, a bit too big blue and sweet, overtly massive, rounded tannin; Aussie Shiraz/Achaval Ferrer?
Semi translucent maroon, lighter rim but still vibrant; great nose, balsamic, tanned leather, fennel, celery seed, raisiny, good bit of sweet liqueured cherry, slight VA, looks fresh but tastes older, late wood tannin; '05 Spinetta Vursu?
Quite golden color with green hues; waxy, exotic nose, green papaya, almond, petrol, oily, a little beeswax, pear, phenolic bitterness; Condireu/Hermitage Blanc/Gruner.
USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
Lighter color, steely mint yellow with green hues; pretty nose but young, shyer, pie crust, honey, good weight, sweet, ripe year, white fruit, peach, strong oak now but it will probably integrate more with time; white Burg that's ripe but solid potential...fooled.
Green color with yellow hues; yogurt, nose is tight and young, flinty, sesame reduction, bright and intense, powerful structure, mineral; great stuff that needs more time.
2011 base, 2014 disgorgement; more golden color; eggy, a bit different nose, perfumed, mineral, honeyed apple, popcorn, ripping acid, very vinous and mineral; Egly Ouriet Vignes des Vrigny?
Cloudy red crimson core with large brick rim; smoky, bloody, slightly weedy, corked but still has tons to be uncovered, singed herb, ash, playdough, red currant, iron, old and dried out but interesting, cork is not as apparent but still crucial component.
Black core with thin reddish violet rim; intense and young nose, coffee bean, wet earth, tar, oak mixed in, touch of VA, blue and black fruit, cedar and a weedy finish, weird combination of underripe and overripe fruit.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
See through dark crimson with orange red rim; aged nose, leather, sour cherry sweet and sexy, very savory, complete wine from start to finish, meaty, orange flesh, sour red cherry, detailed, still an intensity to it; older Gevrey?
Cloudy violet crimson; mesquite, dove shit, wilted violets, a youthful intensity to the nose, plum and red fruit; nicely aged on the palate with a firmness to the tannins, nice complexity and drinking well, a very good example of why I like off-vintage N Rhone.
