Yearly(ish) trip to Sonoma. Return visits to St. Francis and Calluna, but our first visits to LIOCO and Obsidian. David & Tina joined us for the trip.
Our fourth visit to St. Francis. The wine & food pairing was excellent, as always.
Our second visit to Calluna. Out on the porch since the weather was nice. Enjoyed the views.
Went to LIOCO to wait out bad traffic. Couldn't do a tasting so we did some wine by the glass. 2021 Tidal Break Vineyard Chardonnay, 2021 Saveria Vineyard Pinot Noir, 2022 Rose of Carignan, and Ojo de Perez (liked this one more of the Roses). Didn't take notes, but liked the wines and it is a convenient location. Would be interested in coming for an actual tasting on a future trip.
Our first visit to Obsidian. Generous on the wines they poured for us. Not sure if it's the different barrels or where the grapes are grown but I really like their wines.

Golden apple, pear, tangerine, butter. Medium-plus body. Paired with roasted heirloom tomato soup with focaccia croutons, lemon-crème fraiche, sage & pumpkin seed pesto.

2018 St. Francis Zinfandel Banti Vineyard 90 Points

Black raspberry, boysenberry, black pepper. Medium-plus body. Fragrant (smells a bit like a port). Paired with brown sugar & verjus glazed king salmon with smoked polenta, matsutakes, broccolini, and un-mami broth.

Blackberry, plum, cassis, black pepper. Medium-full body & velvety tannins. Medium-long finish. Paired with pan-seared bistro steak & zinfandel demi with butter-poached fingerlings, maitakes, spinach, peperonata, & smokey bacon.

Boysenberry, blackberry. Syrupy. Crystal liked it. Paired with port poached pear pavlova with goat cheese mousse, ginger snap tuile, port & vanilla glace.
