Great surprise. I’d heard vaguely about the producer and I have some Chardonnay from this vineyard from another producer, but this was very good. Lovely reduction, lean and elegant, stone fruit, toast, lemon grass, white peach. Medium acidity, medium+ finish. 92-93
From two leased blocks from the other producer in my cellar, planted in 2012. 12 months in 50% new oak, 350L. 73 cases produced
This showed remarkably well for its age. Medium intensity on the nose with quince, a reductive and an oxidative note (never had that before), lemon, bitter note and a hint of cabbage. On the palate richer and cleaner. Medium+ acidity, medium+ finish.
Probably one of my favorite producers in the world at this moment and this cuvee was again brilliant (albeit (too) young). In carafe for an hour or so and still needed time to open up. Such a concentration from this south facing grand cru plot in Quarts de Chaume! Flinty, reductive, floral, citrus peel, pine. High acidity and a long finish. 93++
This has only just started, this will be utterly thrilling in 5-8 years
This spent a couple of hours in a carafe. Natural wine, whatever it means. But I liked it more than most wines that aim to fall in this category. Medium+ intensity, with typical CB bruised yellow apple, flint, lemon. High acidity, medium+ finish. 90-91
I often forget how I tend to under appreciate good (and mature) Bordeaux. This was in a great spot tonight. Plush, opulent but soft and velvety at the same time. Medium+ intensity with cherry, plum, black berry, ceder, well integrated oak. Medium+ acidity, medium+ tannins with a very long finish. 92-93
This again was a surprise! This reminded me a bit of a Tondonia white reserva. Clearly seen its fair share of oak, but not in an obtrusive manner, orchard fruit, lemon. Medium+ acidity, medium+ finish. 91-92
Quintessential riesling! Still young, but so good. Medium+ intensity with white peach, petrol, herbal notes, citrus, tropical notes. High acidity, long finish. 92+
Another piece of history. At 48 years old this was still standing and even developed in the glass. The producer doesn’t exist anymore (as far as I know) and I don’t think this was top notch even back then. Bought at €5 at an auction it is such a treat to drink history and amaze yourself that riesling (especially sweet) ages so well. Linoleum, apricot, bee-wax. High acidity, medium finish

Blind I went to Burgundy. Very light in color and very elegant in its aroma’s; strawberry, candy, touch of oak. So light-footed. So, so good.
