2006 Austrian Grand Cru Rieslings - Gaisberg and Heiligenstein Vineyards

Introduction
It wasn't all Pinot in the Bay Area this weekend. Vin Vino poured eight 2006 Austrian Rieslings from two vineyards by four different producers that gave a great sense of the complexity and refinement these two grand cru vineyards are capable of. I particularly loved the Brundlmayer Heiligenstein "Lyra," and bought some bottles so I can track its development over time. Impressive, minerally and complex wines from all four producers.

Medium golden yellow color; focused, oily, mineral, peach and apricot gelee nose; rounded, lightly oily, aromatic, minerally stone fruit palate with a distinct salt lick showing up toward the medium-plus finish 91+ pts.
