    Italy, Friuli-Venezia Giulia, Friuli Colli Orientali

    Quite different bottle to the last. More evolved. Medium yellow. Aroma of toffee, hay, peach. Pronounced full oak, lemon and vanilla flavours. Balancing acidity and rich apple/quince fruit. Really good.

Flight 3 - With osso buco (2 Notes)

  • 2001 Cantine Giacomo Ascheri Barolo Sorano 95 Points

    Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

    Dark red/brown. Aroma of oak, blackberry, varnish, smoke. More flowery aromas as the wine opened-up. Full, rich cherry and chocolate flavours. Elegant blackberry fruit. Each sip revealed more complexity. Decanted for an hour - might have been better for two hours. Superb.

    A great bottle. Dark red/brown. Thick aroma of tar, musk, fruitcake and liquorice. Layers of rich cherry and blackcurrant flavour, with oak, vanilla and tobacco. A bitter chocolate note develops as the wine aerates. Exquisite.

    Portugal, Douro, Porto

    Surprisingly youthful. Bright purple red colour. Lovely spirity fruity aroma, touch of pine. Fine blackcurrant and blackberry flavours, hints of eucalyptus and ginger. Opens up over an hour with brighter red fruit and a touch of fig/christmas cake. Delicious.
